The thread which sometimes talks about RDNA2

Also, nvidia have had their cards on the market around a month and a half longer than amd, should stand to reason that there's some more of them knocking about. People are approaching this like they launched at the same time, which obviously wasn't the case.

I'm only considering what has happened on like for like time scales.

The RTX 3080 has already made it onto the steam hardware survey list for November 2020 with a 0.22% share.

That is already above cards like the RX 5600 XT and just below the RX 5700 at 0.24%.

The 6800 XT would have to show up in the January survey with those kind of numbers. There is a zero chance of that happening.

The RTX 3070 also didn't launch that far ahead of the RX 6800. Will be interesting to see which shows up in the December survey and what shares they have in January.

Weren't you and others in this thread adamant that AMD delaying the announcement of their cards to the end of October was a good thing as it gave them time to build up stock levels and get everything right.

This argument was purely about the amount of stock at launch. And at launch, AMD some how managed to have way less stock than Nvidia, despite having almost two months to make sure this didn't happen. They had so little stock that some retailers didn't even bother listing them.

You got any advice on discords to use? I am working a lot and don't work in a job where I can easily drop things to get to my phone etc, but having a slightly better chance would be appreciated.

Hi, if you send me a trust, I will send an invite to a discord invite sometime tomorrow.

Keep an eye out early in the mornings, if there are a few drops in the morning, chances are there will be more drop later on.

AMD didn't delay their announcement at all afaik, it was always known to be late in the year it was going to happen. It's possible that internally dates got shifted around, all we know is the date they publicly announced availability.

I've already said they're 3 for 3 on bad launches both cpu and gpu related this year.

Yeah but every AMD owner is expecting the big driver.

No idea what you are talking about. :)

There was an big anniversary driver each year in December. Looks like AMD Santa is not coming this year.

He's having a laugh with you. He works for AMD and knows there is usually a big driver update every year in december. It's pretty late on but we might still get one.

It's been said that there won't be an aniversary driver update this year. I believe someone from the vanguard program posted that (if I am not mistaken).

BS, just because you were caught in a lie. Saying that there were no 3080 cards for months on Discord. Keep moving those goal posts.

It's not that hard getting an Ampere card if you have a little patience. Where as it's next to impossible to get the 6800XT.

The point Muon made was that the AMD stock at launch and since launch has been far worse than Nvidia's. Which is true. It's a fact.

Please stop with the delusion crap, 3080 cards are not as readily available as you imply. Saying I have been looking at the wrong discord is missing the point that neither card is easily available. The fact it might be slightly easier hoops to jump through for an Nvidia GPU compared to an AMD GPU is missing the bloody point. I can't believe people are this stupid to argue over which crap release was less crap. Can someone be any more of an Nvidiot

Yes, why is AMD's main competitor to the RDNA2 cards being mentioned in a thread discussing the pros and cons of their new GPU's? It is utterly baffling.

Not.

Indeed, and you hit the salient point many have missed, they are competing GPUs and are very close in performance apart from RT. For the first time in many years Nvidia and AMD are competing at the top end. Yet there is no price war that benefits us the consumer.

The problem with both is availability at anything close to MSRP, yet many of the Nvidia fans are attempting to revise history to proclaim Nvidia's Ampere release a success because Big Navi availability is a slightly bigger joke than Ampere. They conveniently ignore the fact that Nvidia have also screwed up. Both are a shambles and unavailable to purchase unless you spend all day monitoring discord for random and very limited stock drops. We as consumers are the losers here while Nvidia and AMD along with retailers drip feed stock to drive demand and keep prices sky high. Yet melmac and muon are implying it's the consumers fault because "they are on the wrong discord". I swear the depths some go to defend their favourite GPU company are pathetic.

How anyone can view either AMD or Nvidia's release (not the tech) as a success is beyond me. Both companies seem to be happy with the status quo because they avoided the usual price wars that competing products drive. They have engineered this pathetic drip fed release to perfection and it is the consumers who are being shafted.

More to the point, why is an Amd event thread even still going as no one is talking about the event anymore just random driver chat or the cards unavailability to buy.

I'm presuming it's because there's no specific AMD card threads pinned, unlike nvidia, anywhere so this is the only place for anyone that wants to talk about RDNA2 cards

This thread took over the Navi thread as the event got closer. It should be renamed back to the Big Navi discussion thread

It's in AMD's field now to damage the performance of that 10GB RTX 3080.
It just needs to collaborate closely with the developers to utilise as much memory up to 16 GB as possible.
That will tank RTX 3080's performance pretty fast in the coming months.
And Nvidia's bad reputation against the Radeon 'fine wine' will prove once more.

I expect RX 6800/RX 6900 availability to improve soon because the Ryzen 5000 availability here is fine now.
I have managed to order an Ryzen 9 5900X which according to the retailer system and SMS that I received was being shipped just 3 hours after my order earlier today.
Should come on Monday or latest on Tuesday :)

Unfortunately, I will have to assemble my new rig with someone else's RTX 3080 but that means image quality comparisons are coming.
I will use RTX 3080 just for several days.

And then upgrade to RX 6800 XT, Sapphire once it comes to stock and availability.

That is a very interesting strategy if AMD would implement it. I have my doubts that they will.

Overtime console developers will better optimized AMD hardware. Making it difficult for the opposition to optimize for.

Don't worry Nvidia is doing the same thing, no one stands still in this industry. While AMD is asking developers to use it's 16GB vram, Nvidia is pushing developers to include ray tracing in every game.

No one wins, we're gonna get games that need 16GB Vram and next gen RT cores - both RTX3080 and 6800XT stuck on 20fps, hoorah!

I agree its unlikely because that may require PC specific development - after all AMD's consoles don't have 16GB of VRAM, they have a max of 12GB dedicated VRAM.

12GB is still pretty good though, games like Miles Morales and Demon Souls have exceptional 4k textures that make use of that VRAM - PS5 exclusives look better than a whole bunch of AAA PC games.

I'm kinda sick of playing games at 4k and seeing anything under 10GB VRAM used and then it has low quality textures - bring on the 4k/6k/8k textures, I've got plenty of memory to spare

Lol people dreaming to see games with graphics so heavy that it will bury the competition. Instead of dreaming to see beautiful games that run on any decent hw, like that freaking Gears 5 DLC. That is a beautiful game and it runs fine on everything. Too bad it is too short.
Instead of hoping that Cyberpunk will be improved, patched for AMD and once AMD will release their resolution upscaling you will be able to play it with RT on AMD cards and on consoles, people are happy because they can play a crappy version of the game that runs bad even with upscaling while those with new consoles or AMD cards can't do that.
If we see tomorrow a crappy game that uses 15Gb of Vram some AMD 6000 owners will play it and praise it just because the 3080 owners can't run it at highest settings. :)

Nobody screwed up. Not AMD, not NVIDIA, not SONY... no one.

I see this crap being repeated on every forum almost. Omg sony failed with ps5 cause they couldnt see the demand and increase production ( replace sony with amd / nvidia etc etc ).

What do you get when you have limited production capabilities ( factories ) lots and lots of electronics launching the same year and the worst pandemic in the 21st century? Also with people being stuck inside their homes with even more disposable income that didnt get wasted on vacations / going out regularly and whatnot?

You get this. And there is nothing any company could have done to prevent this.
