if you have a ryzen 5000 series compatible mobo, just stick in the cheapest Ryzen 5000 chip and you get the 'free' performance boost for the RDNA 2 GPU, bingo.

Looking at a 5900x and a 6800xt upgrade. Forgive me if this has already been addressed!
But what is the best way to justify these expenses to the other half? I don't know the best way to approach the subject. She often physically assaults me and I can't remember the safety word. I am a loud screamer - I don't know if this helps.

I don't think it should need justifying if you're a partnership. What you spend your money on, once house and bills are covered, is up to you. I sure as hell won't be begging my Mrs to let me buy new hardware.

Every time I see 6800 written down I cant help but think of the nvidia card from 2004. Must be getting old.

Funny how its come full circle and both amd and nvidia ended up using the same name.

Not something I want to do, however I got the 3600 + B450 board (15 months ago) as it was cheapest option. All I have to do is wait till a B550 board and 5600 are on sale then go that route in a years time. :D free 10%

After today I'm not sure why people would not be cancelling their 3080 orders to be honest .

I guess because there are no legitimate benchmarks yet and AMD have often exaggerated their performance numbers in the past.

If proper reviews confirm the numbers, then Nvidia definitely have a fight on their hands :)

Well if the reviews are anywhere near those figures, sorry nvidia you just lost a lifetime buyer of your products, so happy I cancelled my 3080 order now. I want to see reviews with a intel chip used so I'll know exactly what i'm getting.
Also this release will solve Nvidia's supply problem because I don't think many people will now want one.

Problem there is that would take me from a 3900x to a 5600X.... so while it would no doubt edge out in gaming all else would suffer.

Anyway, I think people are looking at it the wrong way. It's an added bonus of generally a few percent if you happen to have a Zen3 CPU, not a punishment if you don't... likely due to architectural changes that older CPUs can't do. That 6800XT slide against the 3080 didn't have it enabled and it was still holding up great so I think people are getting hung up on it unnecessarily - the alternative is that they simply don't have the feature and no one gets it!

Alone it's not enough to get me to change CPU, but it certainly sweetens the deal when I do. I'm still holding out for a 5950X sometime next year if there are some good deals.

COD and BF are DX12 DXR titles, they will work on any DX12 Ultimate compliant cards.

Whether the titles will need optimised/patched for performance remains to be seen, or if the devs even would but because Nv marketed them as RTX titles, doesnt mean they wont work on non Nv hardware.

AMD I imagine has a few copies of those titles since at least launch, so don't know what the risk is meant to be?
Because the game itself could be blocking the feature from being enabled without a patch from the game developer even though they are DXR enabled.

It looks like AMD has brought some much needed competition to Nvidia, I hope the 3rd party benchmarks are as good as AMD's, we will find out on the 18th Nov/8th Dec i guess.

so happy I cancelled my 3080 order now.

You realise AMD's cards will sell out instantly as well right?
The whole queuing thing we have with Nvidia will be happening all over again but with AMD. They may get more product out, but they certainly will not have enough for the demand
