big hair and hirsute chests are coming back in fashion - even for women.

Warner Bros. Pictures has optioned a script by Paul Sopocy to turn the popular 1983 animated series "Thundercats" into a live action feature reports Variety.

The original series story revolves around a group of humanoid cats who must flee their planet of Thundera after it's destroyed. Once crash-landing on another planet, Third Earth, they must thwart Mumm-Ra, an evil sorcerer, bent on killing them off.

Sopocy's script is described as an origin story expanding on the major heroes and villains from the animated series, with the plot focusing on Lion-O coming of age as the leader of the Thundercats.

The news comes just weeks after it was announced the studio was also finally moving ahead with a live-action adaptation of other 80's cartoon smash "He-Man".

I'm not sure about this.

Thundercats would be my favourite show from when I was younger, which gives me as good a reason to want to see it updated as not.

this is nothing...if you really want to have thundercats ruined for you, google for "night on thundera".

"Night on Thundera" ... *shudder*

However, the unanimated script for the final episode of Dungeons and Dragons is excellent. I highly recommend you read this if you have a few minutes. Quite moving, intelligent and a really good ending to the story.

MASK would be awesome though. ;)

Thundercats isn't a brilliant one, because no matter what you do people dressed up as cats can't look hard.

For some reason I remember it as Jason & TWW, but you're right. That used to be excellent, but the way the evil buggies used to gloop out of the plants freaked me out when I was young. They had that monster ship though didn't they, I want one of those.

Dont think it will transfer to film too well personally.

Id rather have something like Visionaries, blokes in mint suits with staffs etc, that would be cooler and probably more realistically converted to cinema

Only two things matter with this.

Firstly I am dying to see a grown man with a stupidly mental hair-do strutting around in a leotard shouting "Thunder. Thunder. Thunder... Thundercats! HOOO!!!!" I'd honestly pay money to see that on the silver screen.

Secondly, which actress will play Cheetara? As far as I'm concerned this is the single most important piece of casting in cinema history. ;)

Yep. I think Jessica Alba would look good in a skintight suit.

dosent sound like a good idea to bring thundercats to the big screen with real actors then again a while ago i would have said a live action transformers movie wouldnt be good but it looks the business.
Will have to see how it goes

They better leave Jayce & the Wheel Warriors alone....

As the biggest Jayce fan in existence, I would actually like to see a film. It might well turn out to be rubbish, but there's a chance it could be good and therefore enjoyable. Better to try than not I say. The He-Man film was enjoyable. :)

Come on, guys - if you don't want to have your memories spoiled, don't watch it.

I personally would love to see it, and I can't wait to see the new Transformers movie... even if Michael Bay is responsible for it. IT LOOKS AWESOME.

They even managed to put in the cartoon transforming noise! How cool is that? :O

Aye.. and done badly. Very, very, very badly. Dolph Lundgren was a good choice from a physical perspective as He-man but he couldn't act his way out of a paper bag, and the plot was atrocious!
