Given that money is tight (ish), if I were you I´d find an e36 328i Sport, fit the M50 inlet manifold / throttle body conversion (in this months edition of BMW Car if your curious) get it remapped and enjoy without the absurd parts & insurance costs that an M3 brings to the party.

As covered in the previous M3 thread - forget ideas of getting an e36 M3 for 5k and finding it anywhere near cheap to run.

Let's forget the ITR thing for a second. I'm still getting caught up on running SUL being a "hassle". If this is the case, why on earth have you got something like an Impreza RA on your short list, a car that is notorious for wetting the bed on anything much short of the jungle juice the Japanese call fuel?

SUL is getting expensive, but yet you'd feel happy about running a M3?

I don't want to seem like yet another guy who is trying to have a go at you here, really, I'm not, but you need to get your head and priorities straight.

You, like so many others have missed the point entirely.

The issue isn't SUL, the issue was that I saw no point in the 96spec because all it offered was downsides (SUL and Insurance). This is only relevant because of the UK Spec which does not suffer from these downsides.

But as already mentioned there are good insuers out there that count them as the same and both JDM an UK cars are specified for 98 Octane fuel.

where you getting this crap from?

the DC2 is not a car you put regular in. insurance difference is quite insignificant for most, myself included (think it was around ~100 with the main specialists).

sure you prefer the UK etc and thats fine... just don't know why your justifying your preference of it over ridiculous reasons such as that!

MikeHiow, why don't you actually tell us what you want to buy instead of ignoring or taking umbrage at every single sensible piece of advice which is being given? Every time a good suggestion is made, you shift the goal posts or say it's not right or it's too expensive or it's too old or it's JDM or it's inconvenient or "your mates said" or it has to rip up B roads or it has to be okay for families or <insert non-argument to keep thread going>

I mean, honestly. What is it you want to buy? Tell us or shut up because this thread is an utter waste of time if you're not going to take on any of the advice or direction given in it. I can't believe it's even still going because you won't buy anything regardless of the advice, will you?

* takes deep breath *

Now, go out and buy the RA and close this thread :)

Tell me about the 182. It seems like an obvious alternative to the Integra, but the usual hatchback driving position puts me off.

You need to get the 5 lumps out the bank, 1 weeks holiday, drive a few on your list and just buy the first one you like.

Buy a 106 GTI / 306 GTI and track that instead.

Leaves you with 4 grand in the bank to pay for trackdays/ring trip/baby buggy things like that.

Will be just as fun if not more so.

But that's verging dangerously close to actually doing something about him getting a new car. That would never do! It's pretty clear from his previous (and similar) threads he has no interest in doing this. It's theoretical, fantasy stuff.
