I dont know a lot about these EK9's at all. Are they really as awesome as they are being made out to be in this thread? I dont even remember them being raved about when they were new.
I couldnt get my head around paying 5k for an old civic.
The Honda scene is crazy!

They were not soldnim the UK as new models even FD2 are elusive now and the grey import industry is much bigger as is the accessibility to import thanks to the net.

Just think of a DC2 that looks like a Civic. The EK9/DC2 chassis and handling is quite similar, engine is similar, 0-60 is similar etc etc

Fanboyism aside, I wish you guys would take a minute out and go read on the design of the EK9's engine, the seam-welded chassis etc.

The EK9 was quite under the radar because it was never sold here like the DC2, and I believe it was very difficult (or maybe just expensive?) to import until recently.

It is just as, if not more capable than the DC2 - they are very similar.

Im not joking i wouldnt give 300 quid for that, what on earth is anything special about that.

It is only popular because it is a small, lightweight and RWD - not a massively common combination, the key being RWD though for the AE86.

Look at three door MK1/MK2 Escorts, they fetch similar money if not more.

I must just be getting old, what has rear wheel drive got to do with anything?

We know what they are:confused: we're arguing they're overpriced. when standard they aren't even fast:confused:

Yes, because going "Fast" is the be all and end all of motoring pleasure.

They are expensive because they've (Rightly or wrongly) got a mythical status among certain car enthusiasts and are know for being an absolute weapon on the touge (B Roads to you and me :p) with not much more than a bit of chassis work.

My point is that this status it is well beyond that of an EK9 Civic which I doubt many people outside the Honda "scene" care or even know about.

You mention AE86 to Skyline/Supra/Evo/Silva/etc enthusiasts/owners and they'll almost certainly know what you're talking about and have an immense amount of respect for one. Mention a EK9 Civic and they'll almost certainly give you the "lolwat " response.

The AE86 can almost pull off the high prices they command due to their cult following and the fact that there isn't a massive amount of cars out there that can match the brief of being small, Light and RWD with an absolute gem of an engine and an aftermarket back catalogue of parts that'll make a Skyline feel neglected. The EK9 on the other hand. How many FWD Hot Hatches can you buy for £5k-£6k? All of them? :p

I'm not hating on the Civic, neither am I that special type of geek that thinks the 86 is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but i don't think it's quite fair to drag the AE86 in on this debate.
