The time has come

I'm not talking with regards to it's performance in today's market, you're missing the point there entirely. It'd still walk all over most cars, anyway. Yours included :p

We are going wildly off at a rather random tangent. Of course its quicker than mine in a straight line - after all, it's 50bhp more powerful. It's quicker in a straight line than a Teg as well, so what?

Plus you try finding one that isn't in need of £1k spending refreshing pretty much everything, they are absolutely ancient now :p

Yea, I know, comes with the territory unfortunately - but for 2-3k for a really nice one, that shouldn't really need anything, he's got a big slush fund left over.....

Finding a low milage one's a trick though, much like it can be with the equally potent M5s.

Quick cars nonetheless:

£2-3k on a 15+ year old 5 Series is bonkers. The E34 has had its day now, it's market now remains in the £1k smoker-barge zone and the proper E34 enthusiasts.

Mike is neither, he just wants a fun car.

I would say the Type R integra makes sense at this price.

I still miss my JDM at weekends. Not the car for a daily, but ideal weekend car for a blast that isnt going to cost a lot to run or drop in value.

I know what you mean - but on the flipside, high specification models and the rarer versions are 'classics' now, meaning that decent cars hold, if not increase, their worth. This is all OT though, so we should probably stop creating another VXR thread :p

Back on track. Fun car with 4 seats for under 5k......Porsche 928 then? :D

So in conclusion you should buy the Soarer I posted earlier... Unless Fox is going to pull that suggestion apart as well?

Bring it on Fox, I'm in the mood for a fight! :D

I sort of want to, because for £5k the Soarer is basically crap.

But we all know this is a MikeHiow thread and in reality he's probably after a 1500-2k car so with that in mind, yea, go for a Soarer :p

Actually isnt that the most sensible suggestion so far?

A modern hot hatch. Basically like his ST, only a little older and half the price.

Would particularly say "crap". People can, have and WILL spend twice that amount on standard/near standard MKIV Supras in unusually good condition. The Soarer is damn near the same thing if arguably better in a few aspects is you don't like the "look at me" styling or questionable interior design of the Supra.

And then you've got to look at the competition. How many 97-99MY 300BHP, "true" GTs cars can you buy a "One of the best available" example of for £5k? Then how many of them can be ran pretty much on a shoestring with readily available parts?

Just because you see a few tatty nails for around a grand doesn't mean that they are all worth that amount.

So the Supra is 4x overpriced whereas the Soarer is only 2x overpriced? :p

It's not overpriced if someone pays it ;).

You won't get a late model (97+) Soarer for £2,500 anyway, Let alone a manual. £3K+ is the starting point for manuals, and those have been openly trashed by the drifting crew.

I do believe it represents a better built, more comfortable, dare I say it, more "grown up" choice to something like the S14 that was posted earlier. Just wish people would give them a little bit of consideration rather than seeing one for £5k and thinking "Pah, I can get exactly the same thing for a grand on eBay", because you just can't.

This is why I stand by my infamous "You can't get much significantly better for £5k" comment. I honestly believe a good Soarer can mix it with the best of them :).

Yea, plus he can go 'VTEC, YO', as it drags itself into the nearest verge.

-insert comment about that being 'torque steer', so by nature a Honda can't suffer from it-

:D

The EP3 doesn't really appeal. They have a chavvy image these days, and if I have another FWD motor it needs to have a LSD.

To be fair everything on your list has a Chavvy image. You've got a Subaru Impreza, nuff said. You've got a 90's Honda, currently top dog in a City Centre near you, you've got an old 'Emm Free Innit m8'.. the only thing on there that isn't very chavvy is the RX8.

Maybe that's because all the chavs misheard and think "it's wan..." as opposed to "it's a wan....", so have steered clear :D Or it's a bit too feminine even for them....
