I posted a thread before about my flatmates using all the bandwidth and its now getting really bad . .

So I did a little digging and it turns out the router we are using is a:

Belkin F5D7230-4 v1010

Which it transpires can use the custom DD-WRT Micro firmware. The problem is I know nothing about this side of networking. I've flashed router firmware before but this seems a lot more complicated. In addition, it has to be done in a ninja esk stealth attack so they don't know what I am doing, this means minimal down time.

Has anyone installed this? Were there any problems? Will it do what I need it to do? Any help appreciated!

Just an update, flashed the firmware to dd-wrt.v24_generic-8184.bin. After a couple of nervous minutes waiting for the router to reboot (and hoping my flatmates wouldn't wake up) it booted up successfully. I re-configured WLAN/security/LAN to its previous state and then got down to setting up QOS. It's all gone very smoothly, but the real test will be when they start hammering the service, they might be in for a little surprise :D Due to the way the system is set up, it shouldn't inconvenience them unless the take the pee, but its good to know I can play TF2/CS without massive spikes now.

You have to be kidding :D One of them only uses it for browsing the BBC, hes not the problem. It's the other one who is on a mission to install every bit of malware and spyware known to man through his incessant torrenting, but even he doesn't know what a forum is :)

Classic bud, remember if he asks why its running slow, tell him its um the web spherical flux of bandwidth due to cosmic radiation or something if he doesnt have a clue lol :D

If he asks whats happened tell him he is a **** (male chicken) and has bunged up the interweb pipe to the house with all the crap he has been downloading.

Also tell him you will have to call out xxxxxxxx (insert your provider) to clear all the crap out of the pipe at a £70 fee ;)
