i remember watching this at the cinema when it came out. it had received poor reviews and the other people i watched it with thought it was rubbish.

i, however thought it was really good and i still do. i just love the concept and how carrey plays the role.

what do you think? misunderstood greatness or a load of rubbish?

Mis-Understood, Carrey was coming of the back from doing some huge comic characters, so people went in expecting the exact same thing and not have a film that could carry a meaning, although some text book comic moments from him, I thought it was a very clever film.

I like it. Saw Me, Myself and Irene for the first time in ages a few nights ago - I really liked it this time around.

I saw it at Grauman's Chinese Theatre whilst on holiday in LA when it was released. I thought it was great. A really good story and a great performance by Carey. Haven't seen it in ages though.

Not sure about your memory if you're saying it received poor reviews at the time... It reviewed well and was nominated for Oscars, etc.

Carrey has a lot more to him than just his goofy, zany characters. There's this, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Majestic, I Love You Philip Morris... He's a much better actor than you might reasonably expect if you only looked at his ker-azy films.

Jim actually won the Golden Globe for best actor off the back of this. I think it's a brilliant film, super good.

Don't remember how it was received when it came out but I thought everyone liked this film.

Maybe at the time the critics didn't "get" jim carrey's role because it wasn't the typical jim carrey slapstick humour.

A truly great movie. I don't know anyone who doesn't like it.

I remember people criticising it at the time. I'd sort of grown out of his type of wacky comedy when this film was released, but a lot of my friends were still very much into it, and were just disappointed because they wanted another Mask, Ace Ventura or Dumb and Dumber.

I think to a lesser extent The Cable Guy and Liar Liar suffered from the same thing. They weren't wacky enough to appease the fan-base of young teenage boys he'd built up with his earlier films.

I love this film. It made me see Jim Carrey as a more serious actor, than just someone who does funny comedy films. I really liked Enternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind as well. He definitely has the ability to do great drama, it's a shame he doesn't do more. He needs a decent film at the moment though. His last few were poor.
