Interesting about the coil whine, definitely would annoy me more.

quite alarming he didnt put a heatsink on the VRM's as they will get really toasty. Going from a heatsink covered VRM fitted cooler to just a 92mm fan blowing on them isnt really a good substitute especially if you want stable overlclocking. I was meaning to fit my G12 this afternoon but didnt have time, the custom VRM heatsink I made for my 1080ti should fit my 2080ti.

If it doesn’t impact the warranty the. Go for it anyway.

I’ve seen enough people report temps and clocks on g12 vs custom loop to know the g12 in a 2080ti isn’t the best idea - especially if you plan on overclocking.

From what I’ve read even a heatsink on the vrm and memory is not enough it needs active cooling to get the best out of this card

I was going to pair my 2080ti with a 360mm aio too using a g12 but once I found out that the overclock won’t be what I expect and the memory clocks will be way lower than a block I decided against it

Just shows you the guy in the video doesnt put anything on the VRM's.

Thats why I`m wondering whether to go get the EVGA AIO cooler for it when it comes back into stock. The GPU on the EVGA black does hit 81c sometimes which is too much for me. Might try my G12 it doesnt affect warranty.

Hello there people, i wanted to grab some quick advice from you for my friend, he just got upgraded from a 2080ti evga black to a XC via the upstep program but he is not seeing the scores he should be, can some one tell me to tell him what are his options i.e for bios modding the card to get the most out of it?
He wants to put the card on a block but what tweaks can he do to get the best from this A chip card?

Most appreciated for the help

What was he expecting going from one 2080ti to another? Looking on the evga specs there is only minor difference in clock speeds between these - maybe he rolled the chip lottery and lost out this time round. Has he tried overclocking using evga software?

Well the core went from 1900 to 2050 because of the increased power limit to +135% and his temps sit at 55-65 so the chip is good, even checked the serial number and its definitely an A one.
I have seen that you can use other bios's on the XC to push it further especially when under water.
Just looking for advice from the owners of these cards to find out what the cool guys are doing to push these things

Well you could flash the EVGA FTW3 Bios onto it then put it under water.

Should then do well over 2100 if you got a decent chip in the lottery

Thats really helpful thank you, any other tips for him? For overclocking in general and also is it possible to undervolt these cards? I have no idea as you can see from my sig i am an AMD user and I feel a bit like a fish in a shark infested sea entering this thread lol

You are better off flashing the Galax 380w bios which currently is the most available for a FE based card. However the 130% available to the card is plenty anyway.

XC black to XC ultra is going to be a minimal difference. As the only thing the black struggles with is it’s power limit so your talking 1800mhz vs 2050mhz which in reality is going to net 5% performance gain.

Watercooling will keep it far quieter but again you are not going to see massive performance benefits over air.

I’m pretty sure you can undervolt them if he wanted to tune the card for the best noise/performance ratio etc.

He tried the ftw3 bios and it was a huge improvement but the temps were too much for the heatsink but would be good under water.but the galax is better how ?

Galax is a slightly higher tdp of 380w and a ref board design like the XC ultra is.

The FTW3 is a non ref board with a custom vrm, so surprised it’s working as it should to be honest.

I wouldn’t flash either way until he has a better cooling solution. Different vendor bios obviously run in a different manner, different fan speeds, designed for different fans/amount of fans, different vrm in the case of the ftw3 etc.

Most of the above can be rectified with a waterblock. Always best to use a ref bios if the card is indeed reference design for future info.

He tried the galax bios's from techpower, the OC one and the latest normal one and they didnt seem to do much different, and had a very low power limit.
Which do you use with your waterblocked 2080ti?

In terms of power limit percentage yes. But in terms of tdp its still 380w. Depends on the percentage adjustment and original stock tdp of the bios. Card may have 10% adjustment but if the stock 100% tdp is 350w then that would be 385w for example. Vs a card that has 250w stock tdp and 30% adjustment for 325w for example.

I just use the standard EVGA 130% 330w bios as it makes next to no difference putting it higher, only really for benchmarks and even then the card still throttles down. Card still runs 2070mhz with +500mhz, even +1000 on the memory solid on every game i throw at it at around 43c.

Hi all, I've just joined the 2080Ti Club. Got a stellar deal on a Gigabyte Gaming OC which I couldn't refuse so upgraded from a 1070. So far so good! Everything I've thrown at it, it has taken in it's stride. 4k on my OLED TV looks insane!

Started to tweak it by flashing the Galax 380w bios. Got +120 on the Core and +1100 on the memory but my boost clock is settling at 1980Mhz. Seem's temperature is an issue as I'm seeing over 80 degress whilst playing games. I've done a bit of research and gone down the Kraken G12 road with a Corsair H115i. From what I've read they can be made to work with a bit of effort and I'll be fitting it early next week so will update then!
