The Tycoon Games

Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 was the best in the series, 2 fixed a few annoying issues but they made it so you didn't have to work through the levels in order, which took away the sense of accomplishment IMO.

Golf tycoon was fun.The in the same little people mode, ski tycoon.

And for something a world away, Monopoly tycoon, very good:)

*not played it myself, but city tycoon: newyork comes to mind, if sim city 4's up your alley, the game had decent reviews.

I think that's where I've gone wrong, I've tried to expand too quickly. Any decent guides on how to get started around?

Have you done the tutorials? They explain it all to you. I had the same problem until I actually sat down and did them.
It's a lot more unforgiving than most simulation games, but ultimately more rewarding!

I'm not sure off the top of my head. At first, the absolute main priority is getting your money in the green, you need to be making more money each month than you're spending. Also, it's very difficult to be successful with only one city, you have to build lots of different cities in the region and connect them, via roads, pipes, electricity cables etc, so that you can do deals between cities. I haven't touched the game in ages, but if I remember correctly, I have one city which is just agriculture everywhere. I have another city which is really flourishing, it's mainly a commercial area, I haven't got a single residential zone. The reason that it's successful is because it's connected via roads to other cities, so they just drive in.

I can't remember properly, but there was a trick that could get you loads of money. It involved balancing your money so that you were making a profit, and then running the game on superspeed for ages.

Hope that helps, you've inspired me to go and dig out the game again to see how my cities are doing :p

EDIT: just seen the above answer. Simtropolis is a great site :)
