Hi Overclockers,

I’ve done a bit of research, but the choice is utterly overwhelming for someone who’s been using an iMac for over a decade.

To get to the heart of the matter: my computer will primarily be used for my work as a photographer. Though I would, of course, like to do some gaming and, perhaps, some light video editing. I’d also like upgrade options (a great PC pull factor).

My budget is ~2000£, for the PC system and the monitor.

Any help is sincerely appreciated.

Cheers!

Chipset cooler design of Asus is rather lame with position directly under graphics card and its heat.
Wouldn't want to know to what kind temperatures chipset could get in gaming sessions when room would be heated by summer.
Gigabyte did better in chipset cooler design and would save fair £35.

Standard single fan Mugen 5 is now in stock for £4 less:

And Arctic P12 fans would shave £3 more.

Given that your primary use is photography I would suggest a two monitor solution: one monitor for photography - something like a Dell Ultrasharp - and a 1080p gaming monitor.

Hi,

Thanks for your input, @EsaT!

I’ve tentatively put this together:

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X / AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
NZXT Kraken X53
Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 16 GB (2 x 8 GB)
WD Blue 1 TB M.2-2280 SSD
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8 GB WindForce OC 3X
NZXT H710 ATX
LG 27GL850-B 27”

With that setup (if y’all approve of its viability), which PSU would you recommend?

I’m sure I could shave a few £s from the case and the CPU cooler, but I’m happy with aesthetic > performance in this regard (apparently, the NZXT H710’s “brute force” approach is good enough, according to Gamers Nexus). Bearing that in mind, are there any obvious errors (e.g. additional fans)?

As for your suggestion @Quartz, I’ll almost certainly invest in a second IPS screen down the line, but financial constraints have me searching for a halfway house at the moment.

Cheers.
