The UN says the EU migrant crisis is largely the EU's own fault.

Have you seen the camps in the Lebanon? Or Turkey? Or Jordan? Would you want to stay there?

I'll start caring about the conveniently photogenic people living in a safe warm country who are all being fed, sheltered and cared for personally by Angelina Jolie, as soon as naive hand wringing white liberals start caring about the homeless and mentally ill in our own country, who are currently sleeping on the streets in the middle of Winter.

After the UN has a go at the EU over the complete mess the migrant **** up is in a former Mi6 chief wades in to.

"Former MI6 head Richard Dearlove has said Europe faces a "populist uprising" if it is unable to show its citizens it can control the migrant crisis."

"Mr Dearlove also warned against offering visa-free travel to Turkish nationals, describing the move as like storing gasoline near a fire."

Tell us something we didn't guess ourselves last year.

I completely agree though.

he's also spoken quite sensibly about the security impact of Brexit - mostly that it won't really have a negative effect but could certainly bring a couple of positive ones from stopping free movement for all EU citizens to here and putting us in the position where we can withdraw from the ECHR which is currently stopping us from carrying out deportations of known terrorists etc..

At this rate they will be fleeing for their lives from Europe.

We all know why.

I believe there is some truth in the statement. I find it puzzling that the US and the EU for years in this conflict did not achieve anything but handwringing. Along comes the Russians and start bombing and within two weeks there is a flurry of activity and partial ceasefire. To me, it seems the US and EU were quite prepared to allow the conflict to continue for their own purposes. Cue Merkel and a wave of refugees, economic or otherwise arriving and the US/EU are in full gear trying to prevent them.
Isn't it wonderful the games powers play with people's lives.

Two of the full time remain protagonists on here constantly claim visa free travel for Turks is a nothing, just a technicality, saving them some form filling. They cite Brazil and Colombia as examples of countries enjoying visa free travel and ask why I didn't whine when they were given this freedom.... Hmmm, they will not speculate publicly as to why they think this is of such importance to Turkey. A question is merely met by questions from them, despite them being very opinionated on matters supporting their remain advice.

I feel granting visa free travel to Turkey is a shocking move, the Turkish government are threatening to rescind the multi billion EU payments deal for "aiding" in control of the migrants if they don't get this concession. So it's obviously of extreme importance to them, and I suspect I know why. Seems Dearlove agrees, if not our forum activist remain supporters ;)

I agree with the uprising warning, too. Marine Le Pen is on course for success in France, Austria is on course for a far right government, with the Freedom Party of Austria under Norbert Hofer, and Hungary already has the charismatic and strenuously anti migrant leader in Viktor Orban. It's almost set in stone that other EU countries will follow as the crisis deepens, not to mention local uprisings in regions suffering from sudden and excessive influxes of these people many see as undesirable, trouble and costly in many ways.
