I’ve just finished listening to The Athletic FC’s latest podcast, investigating the trade of fake football shirts.

Given how expensive official football shirts have become, it’s easy to see why so many people turn to fakes. However, the podcast highlights that many of these counterfeit operations are linked to organised crime, meaning buyers may unknowingly be funding criminal networks.

They also suggest that materials used have been known to be potentially poisonous. It almost feels like a scare tactic, as if they’re trying to put people off buying them.

Any way, thought it was an interesting listen for anyone who have or considered buying a fake shirt.

Where do you think the official ones are made?

In sweat shops like the fake ones. Our whole western civilisation is built on the exploitation of the poor.

I listened to the pod when it was released. They actually said the fakes are made in a factory across the road from the official ones or something along those lines as well as some blokes friend runs it so are very similar. Later on an expert said they struggle to fake the bar code on it.

Basically nonsense the entire thing. It was like they are saying if you do it you’re supporting ISIS and al qaeda! While saying at the same time the nike and adidas have to make at least £25 per shirt sold, VAT is 20% etc etc etc

Long story short, don’t take the **** and charge stupid money for the shirts. Make them £30 and everyone would buy them to support their club. Expecting parents to fork out >£120 for a kit with name/number when you can get it for £12 is insane.

These billionaire owners aren’t living on the same planet.
