Have some work done on a huge tree in the garden. Got a quote through last week for 1300.
Thought it seemed expensive. But it's quite a specialised job when TPOs are hanging around. But still more than I expected.

Better get a second quote at least

Under 400.

A bit less work, but second guy clearly knew his stuff. I was surprised I have to say. Couldn't believe the price difference.

I had mentally allocated 800 for this.

Just shows the importance of getting multiple quotes. Still shocked. Think the first one might have been taking the pee though. I'd say second quote 1/2 to 2/3 work for 1/3 of the price.

Makes me wonder how many people don't bother getting a second quote.

Post a photo of the tree and what you want done with it and I can tell you pretty accurately what it would cost round here for fully insured professional to do it.

I will get a pic

The red vertical. They are going to take 2m off
The red arrow they are planning on taking completely out.

The other more expensive one were going to do a crown reduction all round. But second quote said this would be bad as it will just regrow this quickly

These are TPO trees and both quotes were from fully licensed organisations.

Would I be right in saying a third of the tree is over a neighbours garden and will any work be done that would be on that side?

I'm swinging more towards the lower quote after seeing the above.

Not with the lower quote. This guy seemed to know what he was talking about more than the higher one.
The higher quote would require work on neighbours side. Apparently not going in the neighbours

Well under £200, I would say £150 would be plenty. To be honest I'd do something like that myself, it's not exactly big in the grand scheme of things. The tree people also get to sell the timber, either as logs or wood chips.

My next door neighbour wanted an overhanging tree of mine cutting back as it was taking light off a mini orchard. I told her if she paid for it to be cut down entirely she could have the timber. She jumped at the offer.

With the trees being TPO I'd never get permission to do it myself.
I could probably do it myself as well. I have a chainsaw capable of that width of bow. And could do the majority of the vertical myself also

I expect I will go for the 375 quote. Can't see it being much less. It still seems a lot for the work to be honest but isn't that how everything is going now?

Trying to get one more quote but doubt it will be much different
