Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

That's because it's an M.2 NVME drive presumably in an M.2 slot, not a PCI-E NVME drive in the third PCI-E slot ;)
Yep my bad, the Chipset is running at 2.0 x4 according to the Motherboard documentation. The weird thing is, i can select it to run at Gen 3.0 in the bios.

Page IX of the manual says the M.2 slot can run at PCI-E 3.0 x4 or SATA-III with a Ryzen CPU, I think it's just the Athlon/APU chips that limit it /shrug.

VEGA and UnderVolt is defo the way to go, more testing needed to see if this remains stable. everything stock apart from lowing voltage to 1000, my max temp was 76c core boosting and remaining at 1500+

get that HBM to 1000MHz and beyond shanks, she's free performance that costs nothing right there mate. Just whack her up.

Yup, mine is happy to bench at 1100, game stable at 1080 without touching the voltage. It seems from my testing that the HBM frequency makes more of a difference than the core (once you've taken care of undervolting).

That on stock Voltage also? 1050 in my case?

Thanks

The memory voltage in Wattman for Polaris/Vega is not for the Hbm modules.
Hbm Voltage is set to 1.25v for rx 56 and 1.35v for rx64 via the registry.

So until there's a mod it's just a case of clocking until you lose performance and then back off a little and ensuring hbm temps are below 80c.

You mean the lanes from the CPU to the chipset? Or maybe it's the lanes to the M.2" slot you are looking at in the UEFI?

Maybe if it really is the chipset it will run it at 3.0 x2 rather than 2.0 x4 which would be roughly the same bandwidth?

Does anyone know what the gpu temperature hotspot reading is in the latest gpu-z? Mine is hitting 105c with a fullcover block on while the gpu temperature is sitting at 65c

wow time for a strip down and do it over ... from what I've seen around 40 should be the limit?
you on a double or triple rad ?
you might get that on a double ..
myself have 2 triples waiting

that does seem incredibly hot, 105c seems pretty extreme, expecially for a full cover. 65c also seems a touch on the warm side for a full cover. That 105c temp just doesn't sound right to me, maybe reinstall the monitoring software and double check??

I've just done my final testing tonight, just posted this one over in the Vega64 thread for reference.

Hello,

I have been trying to find results for the Vega 64/56 on "Blender cycles" benchmark https://code.blender.org/2016/02/new-cycles-benchmark/
Is anyone here using Blender cycles with Vega? If yes, would it possible for benchmark results.

I have seen 2 results on other benchmarks, and they show Vega with good results, but would prefer seeing results from a member here.

Regards,
I've run several of the renders at the link you've offered with my LC 64 and can post my results if you're interested.
