Could also look at it from the perspective of monitors. I class a 1440p as mid-range, so what cards would support that resolution pretty well? 1080,1070 & 1060 ?. Top end is 4k, which 'single' cards support that well? I'm thinking current games here, not old

Overall it's a better workstation card than the 1080ti, and in some cases beats the Titan XP too.
Let me start buy saying that in my current rig I have a Ryzen 1700 with an RX480 so I'm not an Intel/Nvidia fanboy.
With that said, the Vega 64 launch is trash. The card is not only slower than a 1080 and uses more power, it's also more expensive. Anyone trying to justify that it's a good buy at the moment is kidding themselves. If it was down at £400 then sure, why not. But even the £450 pre-orders sold out in 40 minutes and at £550 it's just insane. For another £100 you could pick up a 1080Ti which is hugely faster and much more efficient.
I bought my RX480 8GB over a 1060 6GB because it had more ram and was about £50 cheaper at the time. I knew it wasn't really any faster and used a bit more power but the extra ram and and decent price made it a good deal. If Vega 56 was £300, I would buy it in a heartbeat. That would be a good deal. Currently Vega 64 isn't.

I dont see much moaning, people are commenting but at 18 pages I dont think anyone can qualify as moaning just yet. The reviews have only just come out so obviously on an open forum people are going to comment on what they see.

Some of us genuinely wanted to see a bit better from AMD as it helps us all in the end, you could argue though that they're selling well so it doesn't really matter what we think as long as the sales figures give them something to build on.
Without mining and the sync technologies sort of tying people in then this may have been judged as a poor launch but then if that were the case we'd have likely seen lower pricing.

Yesterday, I was phoning in to OCUK from 2pm and got through fairly quickly at which point I ordered a water cooled RX Vega for delivery today and recieved the confirmation email at 14:19. Today I phoned in due to not having recieved a dpd tracking number and I'm bring told I'm due my Vega64 from the next batch which will hopefully be at the end of the month. Unbelievable. Thanks a lot OCUK

Monitor class is kinda subjective though, I'm running a high hz 1440p with a 1080Ti because i prefer the higher fps.. Going to 4k it's basically halved performance, i myself won't go 4k until a couple of years.Tis true

Cancel it and buy a decent card?
This is the first time that I feel my freesync monitor is holding me to ransom. I was looking forward to this launch but now I feel compelled to buy. I never took power consumption as a serious thing until now. It makes these cards feel old even though they have the latest technology.

Agree, I use a TX Pascal at 1440p but it's of course capable of 4k pretty well too. I wouldn't want to use anything less than a 1080 Ti at 4k
1080 performance for the same price but noisier, hotter and higher power consumption. ...and all this 15 months later.

Why is it acceptable to some on here for them to charge this much for such a poor and out of date card
It's not. I was all set to bite at 2pm yesterday but the £450 special price was still too high IMO, even if that was to end up as the regular price. It had to undercut the 1080 as far as I'm concerned. At £550 they can poke it. The WC version is beyond a joke unless it turns out to ramp up to near 2Ghz once AMD have sorted out their software. Incredibly unlikely though, eh.
I just want a decent 4K@60Hz card but struggle to justify to myself spending >£650 for the privilege which is where the 1080Ti's are. However, I would have compromised for a bit with a Vega64 at £399.99. As it stands I'll just have to wait it out for Volta instead by the looks of it and hope that GPU prices plateau.

They took 640 quid from my account at 12 minutes past 2pm, I then decided to buy a bigger psu so I phoned back in and they took another £140 from my account at 39 minutes past 2pm, Apparently they can't even find the second order, The money has been taken though so yeah maybe I should get a refund and buy a different card but I wanted Vega for my Freesync monitor.
