Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

So if I release a product I price it according to the RRP my competitor set for their product 1.5 years ago?

No, I price according to the market today.
Isn't that what AMD did? The V64 was priced against the GTX1080 which it matched/beat in most stuff, the V64 AIO was priced against the GTX1080 AIO cards, and then because they did well against those cards and had Freesync plus mental workstation price/performance they sold like mad and the prices went to the moon.

Yes AMD were of course banking on miners paying these ridiculous prices.

For real gamers, the choice is clear.

So amd were banking on the cards retailers bought for cheaper, to inflate the prices for miners? Why do the retailers sent some of the inflated cost back to amd or something? Wishful thinking.

£550 according to Gibbo is the rrp set by AMD, not a price elevated by demand. So its priced way above the competition. It's a crazy decision.

If 64 was £400-450 it would be a good buy. However anywhere north of £500 and it becomes a crap buy. That's the fact of the matter. The pricing has made it a let down.

I'd love to move back to amd because I love what they have done with Ryzen and Thread ripper. I just feel these have missed the mark somewhat.

There is no denying that bringing a power hungry card over a year late is a bit of a flop.

Yesterday, I was phoning in to OCUK from 2pm and got through fairly quickly at which point I ordered a water cooled RX Vega for delivery today and recieved the confirmation email at 14:19. Today I phoned in due to not having recieved a dpd tracking number and I'm bring told I'm due my Vega64 from the next batch which will hopefully be at the end of the month. Unbelievable. Thanks a lot OCUK

That is terrible ..i would be fuming ..seems net orders take priority over lan orders ..

I ordered at 2:05 on the site and still didn't get one and thats literally when the forum links went live. :( 1000 cards? Kinda doubting it.

I said yesterday it was an easyJet launch. OCuk may of had a thousand cards, with a handful priced at £450. A launch price lasting 4 minutes is disappointing to say the least.

RRP is £550. Set by AMD.

That's not what amd said on their launch slides. All of a sudden the 499 changed overnight to only for a limited amount? Be interesting to see amd's take on this.

Right now retailers are (as usual) playing the supply and demand card, look how much the aio versions have jumped, from 638 to 699 to 780 in the space of 24 hours. Complete joke.

Apparently the US price is still $499, and £549 is in fact a <1:1 conversion from USD to £.

So US RRP = $499 still
UK RRP is (always was) £549, and OcUK had permission to sell a limited number < RRP.

The plot thickens...

e: Basically we are the new Australia, and we're just being asked to pay more.

Yes, that's correct.

Now the good and bad news, the good news is AMD are rebating early launch sales to allow us to hit £449.99 on the stand alone black card which has no games. This is a launch only price which AMD at present are saying will be withdrawn in the near future, when if it happens is unknown, but remember do not be shocked if the price jumps nearly £100 in a few days.

The cards available now are "packs". AMD have made it very confusing with the different options. Hopefully when manufacturers release their custom cards things will a bit clearer.

The free games thing i would barely even consider a pack as its not unusual to get free games with a card. Do these come with money off ryzen cpu's etc? Doesn't look like it. The pack in america was money off a freesync panel, money off a motherboard and ryzen cpu. But over here that's somehow been diluted to 2 games and a middle finger with a higher pricing.

And if you look at the listings of the cards on ocuk it just mentions free games in a "black pack", so paying more for not even remotely the same deal.
