Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

The gap between custom 1070s and reference 1080s isn't so great.

AMD have gimped Vega 56, they've BIOS limited it to 300W. In truth that isn't a bad thing :p

well of course if we talking about TDP gimping then all nvidia cards are gimped as they all are TDP and voltage limited in the bios :)

A 300 watt limit is almost double what some 1070s are TDP limited to.

I see in the preorder thread some got a 64 for £450 which to me is an ok price, sadly tho it seems prices have skyrocketed now, but at least it was ok at the start.

Oh noes, only 300W :p

Truth be told I'm only interested in 56 because the power can be kept < 200W. Everything now depends on the AIB coolers and how quiet they can be kept, whilst still giving ~1070 perf.

Well, not quite everything. I still don't think the UK price will be <£400, so I probably won't be biting anyhow.

I was meaning in comparison to the 64 TDP :)

The £450 price was a limited number subsidised by AMD.

There might be a limited number at a discounted price according to Gibbo. If there are they won't last long :p

So many excuses being made on AMDs behalf here and all over the internet, it's almost cringeworthy. How anyone can say this is a decent product is beyond me. The guy who bought my custom cooler overclocked 1080 a few months back for £390 must be laughing now.

The 56 ain't bad. it seems to have legs on the 1070 from what i have seen video wise. Side by side with a few tweaks the 56 looks to be a step above and there is probably more to come. Overall though at this point in time i would say Vega is pretty average after seeing my mates 1080ti and tweaking it. Out of the box it boosts to just over 2ghz and would leave Vega 64 standing. Still the gpu market is a joke price wise and for a change AMD have not helped much. Here's hoping Navi is another Ryzen.

I normally like AMD's products, they might not be the best but their performance vs price is usually good, and for that reason I lean more towards AMD than nvidia, but I have to say I'm disappointed with Vega, not because of the product itself but more AMD's marketing/pricing.

The higher end 64 models weren't ever on my radar anyway, neither is a 1080 for that matter, I have too many other things to spend money on and don't do enough gaming to justify the price of a high end GPU, however I still consider even a 1070 to be over priced and was really hoping that AMD would have been a lot more aggressive with their pricing, and matched nvidia for performance but hammered them with the price, it would have been nice if 56 was between the price of an RX580/1060 and a 1070.
I'm sure this has already been mentioned and the answer is that nvidia will just lower their prices, but to me that's a good thing.

Does anyone else feel like there's a gap in the market there? The price difference between the 3GB or 6GB versions of the 1060 is very close, as is the difference between the RX570 and RX580, someone who's looking for a 570 could quite easily be persuaded to spend the extra on a 580 instead. But then there's a huge jump in price up to a 1070, or Vega 56.
