Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

AMD is very lucky miners are snapping up their cards. Vega isn't the best, loets be honest. It's not terrible but it's the new 2900XT. However, people mining currency is boosting AMDs profits and keeping them in the game. Maybe Vega V2.0 will be better.

Maybe Vega 2.0 will be better at mining also? Maybe mining isn't going away?

Maybe Navi is the ultimate mining card!

Its not false, the RX, the Frontier, the Instinct etc... are all the same cards, AMD are one for all.

If you made a logical post the first time round it wouldn't get called out because that's not what this said:

Ive said it before, if all you do is game, and nothing else, then you want Nvidia, as only they do cards for gaming (their GeForce range), theres no point in AMDs cards, if all you do is game.

Why buy a Vega, if all you do is game, when its got stuff dedicated for compute etc... on it as well, that you aint gona use, so if all you do is game, you might as well just buy a gaming card, which is what Nvidia do, their GeForce range.

Not sure it's only miners.. probably some but as it was mentioned earlier it could also be people who want pro workload performance, and the day 1 stock probably wasn't that massive overall worldwide either (a major e-tailer in France didn't even get any for example so didn't even list them on their site for launch, they will list them when they get their first stock)
I'm also thinking that maybe AMD delayed the drivers for the sole purpose of avoiding good mining results on the day 1 reviews if we are to believe that they can activate mining perf with the drivers, would be sensible to get "more" cards into gamers hands at launch.

I would argue since more non-gaming software is GPU accelerated nowadays even by Geforce cards,if you only want to game you should buy an XBox X. Thats about the most a blasted console can barely do!

Runs away\.

:p

As i said, loads of people were saying, don't judge the RX on those Frontier gaming reviews, as thats not for gaming, well, can anyone on here say that the RX is that different, apart from having half the memory, and an extra 30Mhz on the core ?

Why the **** would miners be buying the cards? They're **** at mining.

You will need google translate if you can't read German but they come out and said the HBBC and Primative shaders are not being used! Apparently AMD haven't given a firm date when these features which could have a sizeable bearing on performance will be turned on.
Believe to the end and beyond.
yea a performance lift of 30% incoming incouple months :D
the matter is we have 1070 and 1080 competition, for the same price, and maybe with better value when you add dx12/vulcan and freesync, thats going to be enough for now, no Ti competitor yet.

You may not see that even this time next year. Miners will keep the price up.
The old Fury lineup had a fairly short shelf life and Vega may follow suit if Volta brings decent gains over Pascal. Given the size of the chip and the expense of HBM2 I think AMD will simply cease production of RX Vega and limit the chips to the HPC market as it simply wouldn't economical to discount to a level where it would still a compelling buy. That is unless AMD can sort out the software and get HBCc and those primative shaders and DSBR working.

I think in the long term all these hardware features of Vega will slowly start to add value to the card, especially if they can get these things added to games. But in terms of performance once Volta arrives it's going to be left far far behind again.
