Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

Always something with me? You need to step back a bit bud and chill out. I personally think AMD have done well with such a limited budget and Vega 64/56 is a decent upgrade for many users. It was available for £450 (Vega 64) and I was very tempted to grab one myself for reviewing but not a fan of custom cards, so pulled out. I have seen you are a little upset with this launch for some reason but there is alternatives, so no need to be so vocal :)

Rubbish. Everything you say is rubbish. How is this a good card or good launch? Apart from the Vega56 it's a joke and AMD realised this when they told reviewers to prioritise the 56.

And to add salt to the wound they have screwed up pricing not just by upping the price but also in their poor marketing of it. So not only is the launch a joke AMD have also lied to reviewers about the RRP. It's amateur hour.

Don't get me on the limited budget rubbish. They seemed to have had enough revenue to produce a great CPU.

Harsh!

A year later and not better?

How?
I am surprised also. I did not think AMD fell behind so much. But the answer seems to be they put all resources in Ryzen. They also have a much smaller driver team, so it takes much longer for them to get the best out of the hardware.

It baffles the mind, and with volta around the corner they are going to be irrelevant so quickly.

Come on AMD!

Yeah :(

Yes Indeed amongst other things cooling, power usage, performance, price.

Why not cool both models 64/56 with AIO to help keep noise and heat down as standard to off set the price, power usage has AMD got shares in EU+UK power companies. Them comes performance a V64 somewhere between a 1070-1080 / V56 = 1070 price wise the 1070/1080 better value for the money.

Not to impressed with Vega my 980Ti still performs well at 1440p so still not in a hurry to update.

I wouldn't swap out a 980ti for the rxV64 either.
It's crazy how far behind Amd are now despite being on 14nm with a massive die.

I was going to swap out my 980Ti on water for a Vega64 until I saw the performance stats, power usage and price. Joke.

Will wait for Volta now. I've lost faith in AMD to do anything half decent with Navi.

I had one in my basket at 2:15 ish at £450

Only going by what another member experienced, all gone by 2.05 pm. Possibly having one in your basket was no indication of stock until you tried to place the order? I don't know, what we do know is that the opportunity to buy Vega 64 at £450 could be measured in minutes. Maybe the forthcoming AMD statement will bring clarity to their pricing structure.

Maybe and not sure myself. No chance I would have paid £550 though and pretty much £450 was acceptable. No idea if it is AMD or the retailers bumping the price though but naughty if it is the retailers.

It's taking them - or rather their lawyers - two days to word an excuse. Don't expect to get any clarity from their statement!

For Navi to work they need to have good scheduling and driver support, As Amd have been stuck on 4 geometry engines for too long and signs show that they can't get the throughput or efficiency.
The Polaris front end was modified to support better dx11 scheduling and it does help, but the main concentration is still for dx12.

The fact it's taking them two days makes you think there's some serious damage control to be done. Just coming out and saying "the rrp is £449 but the retailers have chosen to rip you off" is dodgy ground.
Similarly introducing the "dynamic rrp" feature may take some explaining...

I don't think that the power consumption of the V56 is as bad as you're thinking. Gamers Nexus measured the actual power consumption delta between V56 and 1070 and estimated what this means in terms of US electricity costs:

Or the simpler explanation is that it's just like any large corporation, several people have to be involved to understand the communication problem, draft a response to it, get several more people to check and approve it and then disseminate. It's not like they didn't **** up the communication the first time around, what makes you think they should rush to explain it this time around?

And have they actually said the latter, or is this your own unfounded claim?
