Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

They don't. They only need to stick to there original RRP. RRP is recommended retail price. It's not AMD that set the retail price which is the retailer's. As long as AMD themselves have not increased there prices to AIB's then it's surely down to AIB's and then retailers to give us decent pricing.
According to Gibbo if they sold cards at £450 now they'd make a loss.

That suggests quite strongly that - whatever AMD's pretend RRP is - they are selling to retailers for more than $499.

Having an RRP of $499 when you're charging retailers more than that is meaningless. It's a fake RRP.

Looks like Asus have done a good job with their cooler (which is to be expected) and this is obvious in the improved performance seen in Hexus's benchmarks. Asus's Strix line is always at the top end with a sizeable premium though, so their pricing isn't going to mean much.
Really? I thought everyone normally lols at ASUS prices because there's no reason to pay them. IE, they aren't any better than MSI/Giga/EVGA/whatever.

I don't think you understood me. I meant Asus's prices are always on the high side; and this is their premium line so obviously will be (and stay) higher than everyone else. Thus you can't read much into the general market pricing from just their Strix prices.

I'm in the same boat as I'm still on a 60Hz Dell 2405FPW. I can feel the delays for Quake. I'm really itching for a 144Hz but I'm not sure what I want yet since I'll have to research. Though when I do go for 144Hz I think it'll be 1080p.

Now Vega is here and its fairly pants I am fairly close to going gsync/Dell/144hz/1440p and a Ti. No rush though. :)

Standalone Vega 64 at £550 is not aimed at gamers. It is aimed at miners.

That's the only logical explanation I can come up with for this price. AMD cannot afford to sell this for less without making a loss (as Gibbo has suggested) and they know it doesn't compete with the 1080 on either price or power consumption, and only matches its performance. It has no attraction to any sensible consumer who is not tied into Freesync, unless your a miner.

AMD knows this. They knew it would fly off the shelf under current market conditions which is in the midst of a mining craze. It's a good business move.

Like I said before, if you're a gamer, the decision is clear.

I don't get this "it doesn't compete with 1080"...yes it does it's right at 1080 level meaning it's performance is most definitely competing with it. I've been benching mine, and even on a 3770k and 1600mhz ddr3 my benching scores beat plenty of1080's on the leaderboards. It's actually right slap in between 1080 and 1080ti yet no one cares to see that, just jump on the hate train....its easy.

True it does compete on performance. Loses in every other category: power consumption, noise, heat, and price.

Lets wait and see about price before making any assumptions. Most Gtx1080's that are in stock are over £500 on this site. When the Vega64 comes back in to stock that's not a bundle we will see if it competes on price. I doubt if it's going to be too far off tbh as the Powercolour that's part of the black bundle deal is £580. Surely the non bundle cards will be price a good bit lower. It's not looking like £450 will happen anytime soon but if they can keep them to low £500's then they can be classed as competing on price.
