Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

Nvidia didn't speed up launches when they were losing why would they do it when they're winning lol.
No, the fact that there's still no real competition at the top end means nVidia don't have to release a new card at all. I wouldn't expect Volta (at least affordable versions) until at least Spring 2018.

Months as in less than a full year - spring 2018 is only about 7-9 months away, on the other hand going by recent history it could be 18-24months before we see anything serious from AMD

Just watched the Adored TV and OC3D videos. I've never seen such a terrible launch and reception.

I feel sorry for Freesync owners because they have to rely on AMD to provide them with GPU's. :o

How beautiful life would be for them if Nvidia supported FreeSync! :D

And if you think about it, if Nvidia did support FreeSync... I don't think AMD would have a market to sell GPUs too. Maybe miners.

If Nvidia did that AMD would be dead, Freesync is the only reason for ever making a case for buying an AMD GPU anymore. I didn't want to buy Vega, but felt I had to due to being tied into Freesync. If it ever happened, Nvidia supporting Freesync I mean, then I'd gladly just drop AMD GPU's once and for all.

I feel sorry for them really as Ryzen is great even with ram issues but Vega.... I was gonna buy one if it was any good.

This launch separates the rational AMD fans from the complete fanatics.

I do (did?) consider myself an AMD fan dating back to my classic Athlon but this launch has soured things for me. I'll keep an eye on things (especially pricing) but I don't think I will be getting a Vega card anytime soon. I honestly think gaming is an after-thought with these cards and that's quite telling even from the SIGGRAPH presentation. Quite happy with my 480 for the timebeing so still not buying into Nvidia :p

I don't get why people feel the need to buy AMD because of their monitor. Just sell the monitor and buy a G-Sync or just go without adaptive sync. It is not as big deal as some make it out to be. We happily gamed all these year before adaptive sync. Unless one plays competitively, then it is still in my opinion perfectly fine to game with v-sync on at 60fps locked. Plenty smooth for a single player offline game. Before people say anything, I have had both g-sync and currently have freesync. It is nice, but not so nice that it will force me to buy from one company.

Reference 1080Ti' could be had for £580 a few months ago brand new also.

Good point, Last year AMD were feigning outrage at the price of the 1080 and stating how you could buy two 480 for the price of a 1080 and here we are today, I've been saying all along that AMD vhave been watching Nvidia screw gamers and that they'd want a piece of the pie I just didn't think they'd be so blatantly OTT with it, They've dropped a long way in my estimations.

Yes we played for years and years without it, because we never had it. But seeing and feeling how good it Is, why would you now go without adaptive...thats just daft, it's a game changer

Yer, same for me. I am a big proponent of Adaptive Sync tech, albeit I run a G-Sync monitor (PG348Q) and playing without it feels horrible. It is a game changer for me and the smoothness is something to be seen. My mate has a Freesync screen and plays just as well. I would happily buy a Freesync screen if AMD had a GPU that was worth it for me.

yep i would agree, as a freesync user i would rather have a slower gpu and freesync than a faster gpu and no freesync

^^

By TNA's argument, we should all go back to playing 1024x768 on CRT screens because we played for years on it just fine before higher resolutions ;D
