Poll: The Vega Review Thread.

What do we think about Vega?

  • What has AMD been doing for the past 1-2 years?

  • It consumes how many watts and is how loud!!!

  • It is not that bad.

  • Want to buy but put off by pricing and warranty.

  • I will be buying one for sure (I own a Freesync monitor so have little choice).

  • Better red than dead.

Probably due to AMD console tech so transitioning to from pc to console should be easy due to the similarities in technology?

well that all depends on how protected or deeply imbeded these features are in, nvidia have the cash to throw to get gameworks in anything they want. Saving grace might be the fact that mac is going to run vega.

Does the 10xx series have fp16? If so what does it matter anyways? Vega won't magically jump up ahead of Pascal.

EA and Dice star wars battlefront 2 will be optimised for Ryzen and Vega.

Tbh AMD seem to have a much bigger/better partnership with developers vs what Nvidia have.

Considering AMD are at a much low market share they have done extremely well get support.

Amd are in a much better situation now for getting new features into games than they was say with the launch or R9 200 series and below.
Yes, that's very true, they're doing well, but they've a long way to go to get these features in every game.
Give it time. The card has only just launched and 2 big publishers are adding in Vega features. Rome was not built in a day.
Don't wait too long, the next gen will be out soon!

Tbh i was considering a Vega build but the more i spend time playing games on my current machine i am in 2 minds. I don't play many aaa games so i don't require the power. I would only be going for a Vega 56 most likely any way. By the time i do decide on buying even Volta might be around. The one thing i do have on my side is time to see whats what.

In front of a PC atm is a new car/ my own wedding which i have gotten out of for 17 years lol and a family holiday to Florida which costs as much as the wedding. Money flying out the door left right and centre. Vega does not help me want to commit and Nvidia are probably about to jump on a full dx12 architecture.

I didn't know that - that certainly helps AMD,and might explain why FarCry 5 and the next Wolfenstein will use it too.

Yup it does fp16 Mike Cerny was singing it's praises. Which is why I mentioned that the consoles might be the reasoning behind the implementation of fp16 in games like Wolfenstein

This shows the nvidia drivers are buggy? They complete ignore the refresh rate settings.

Or lets say, if I have a 4k monitor with 60Hz refresh rate, I expect the GPU to downclock once reached. The same reviewer made also BF1 or Witcher3 where the Vega 64 looks much better AC seems the worst of the benchmarks so far.

^^ For us no mainstream RPM is unfortunate unless somehow its incredibly easy to include as optional extra

I supposed ages ago it wouldnt be clear what product was best to buy till the dust settled on AMD tech this year, when we get a ryzen with vega combo [ravenridge] I hope these 'bumps' in the road are history. I disagree about it being another Fury, isolated

They mention that here:

Shocking perf there in some parts, 1080Ti 2x faster!
Im interested in why its slower in some parts especially or when it might have an advantage even
