The cards fully support crossfire, it just requires supporting software which is imminent.

It's no different to AMD/Nvidia putting DirectX/OpenGL/Vulkan compatibility on the box for versions no games supported yet.

@Zeed That's effectively saying anyone buying a Vega 64 is stupid. Not very nice. Many of us have good reason to buy it/are happy with it.

I am not hiding it. What other reason than owning freesync monitor is there to buy card thats more expensive slower and hotter. And in last few weeks AMD proven that they lie like nv and intel.

As somebody who owns both a 1080 and a V64 I can provide a couple of reasons:

1: It's not more expensive now the initial supply/etc issues have died down.
2: It's not slower on average, they are pretty evenly matched.
3: You don't care about heat figures (as both cards will heat the room up and force you to open a door/window, being able to wait an extra 2mins means nothing).
4: You plan to buy a new monitor during your ownership of the new card (There isn't really a perceivable performance difference between Gsync and FreeSync, and the choice of FS monitors is superior to GS ones).
5: You use applications in addition to playing games and the V64 will provide a benefit.
6: You think Geforce Experience is spyware (yes these people do exist, IIRC there's at least one o these forums).

Plenty of people are going to buy Vega because of all the different routes its being sold, this forum is not the mainstream. The debate on top end is exaggerated here.
I think the real contest or showdown is 2018 when you have Vega vs Volta and there is nothing left then as all the products will be released and driver fixes if any. Volta is going to be compute based not consumer biased so I reckon its not a clear win yet; the main argument in a successful product is really about price/performance and for AMD internally profitability so again that isnt known yet but they need lower prices then it is now imo.

Just had a look and u are right u can buy vega for 460 now thats not bad. Almost as good as 500quid 1080 sea hawk ek edition. Was fantastic grab week ago with free destiny 2. 3 of my mates that waited fir vega picked up that 1080 since will be playing destiny so it was epic deal for card with ek waterblock for that price!!!

Yup freesync and g sync are basically same thing but in my case both useless since dont work with 3d gaming. But nv fastsync works

Well if it goes for production vega is mixed bag same as nv depends what software u using. In some pascal nukes it and ither it nukes pascal.

But for 460 its not bad for 560 its epic fail simple

Guru3d have taken down the Asus AIB Vega 64 review as apparantly had the wrong bios(standard 64 bios), hence pretty much identical performance to ref 64.

Just seen neil473's post, I expect they were nudged by one of the 2 vendors either asus or amd, "guys performance is too low please use our special bios".

They will pull for those sort of reasons of course, but not for reviewing against cards at the wrong pricepoint.

Huh? They had results that conflicted with all the other early hands-on from other sites. Clearly the card was not running right, be it a reference bios or something else.

I dont remember reviews been pulled for the 970 vram issue, or the misleading vega 64 price comparison issue.

Seems my hunch was right, at least guru3d did the right thing to be honest why.

Yesterday we published the ASUS Radeon RX 64 STRIX review. As shown, it performs awfully similar towards the reference Radeon RX 64. This morning I received a phone call from ASUS, asking us if we’d be willing to take down the article for a few days as they have made a mistake.

So done on the whim of a vendor, its always the vendor in control of the review media.

Apparently they sending an entire new card, now we know not every card is the same, its a silicon lottery, so to me a card not performing at the best possible is stil an accurate review, now guru3d it seems is getting some kind of cherry picking to make sure a shiny review is published, we wont know know if its down to a so called faulty bios or cherry picked chip, or a custom review bios to get round a under performing chip/cooling/voltage solution. If Asus's cooling was superior to reference AMD then even on a reference bios it would perform higher.

Dude, you're creating controversy where there isn't any. We knew about the bios already, that article you linked was posted yesterday and has hundreds of upvotes/comments on reddit. The person right above you even posted it's because of the bios.

I'm not saying it needs to match other reviews, but when all other reviews show similar results the one that is drastically different to be considered suspect.

Playing devils advocate here, if they were supposed to be sending them a retail card but managed to accidentally send them a prototype card with a reference BIOS then they probably want to cover all bases as even if they send the correct BIOS and ask them to flash it they can't be 100% the card itself is identical to the retail version they were supposed to ship initially.

is it safe to run a a crossfire set-up without proper drivers?

Euh are you sure about that one (genuine question) because I haven't seen any mention of cfx on any of the retail boxes (looked for as many amateur retail box photos as I could from all the different vendors), just as there is no mention on CFX on the AMD Vega page, it isn't even part of the "official" feature set anymore, and on a side note CFX isn't even mentioned on the RX500/400 series pages either now.

every single Vega retail box I've seen up to now all have the same thing written on them :

(for a view of all sides of a sapphire 64 box) I can't see any mention of CFX, but maybe I've missed it.

Maybe Vega owners can look on their boxes ? I do find this to be an interesting issue, because I did bring up in other places that they are scrubbing any mentions of crossfire on their pages and everything, so it would make little sense for them to put it on the boxes, as it isn't listed as a feature anymore on AMDs side. That and they have clearly indicated that they are moving away from crossfire.

The GPU could have had another problem appart from the vanilla bios (badly seated cooler or something) ? Because what surprised me the most when this came out is that the ASUS cooler wasn't performing much better on a vanilla bios out of the box as ref blower 64 out of the box, be it on heat or performance levels... Which either means that the ASUS heatsink is no better than the ref heatsink, that something else was wrong with the ASUS cooler, or that AMD have designed the best blower design ever and it can't be improved upon very much (lol)

In that review, they apparently removed the cooler before testing and just slapped it back on without new TIM - what a daft thing to do.
