Hi

I fancy learning photoshop and i know absolutely nothing at the minute. A friend of mine wants a small business card made and i said i would give it a stab, also giving me a excuse to play around with PS.

So, were do i start and how ? There are so many different options in PS its all a bit confusing.

The card he wants designing is just for a car washing business so maybe someone could sort do a step by step thingy ? that i can follow and work along with ?

Thanks

Get familiar with the main tools etc on the side and with what each one does.

Photoshop is all about layers so you'll need to understand them. If you find something is being weird you've usually got to merge the visible layers or flatten the image ;)

Have a play around with the built in photoshop effects and play around with the blending options.

Download yourself some free fonts and brushes and work out how to play with them and you've pretty much got the basics nailed.

Practice some online tutorials - check the sticky.

yeap I totally agree....

Just do loads of tutorials perhaps 1 or 2 a day depending on what you are designing and in a matter of a few weeks you will see the difference in your photoshop knowledge...

goodluck...

hours + trial and error = :)

I thought I could get to grips with it like Fireworks but its a lot different to that. I would first get to know about layers before anything!

As for business cards, I always make them in word - much easier lol

It's far easier and cheaper starting off using elements as it has most of the basic tools of photoshop

photoshop is dead easy to use, just make sure you get your head around using layers (and naming them)... start off with the default custom shapes first and messing with the text tools, then start playing about with the layer styles... if you want to become more fancy then use the brush tools...
