After weeks of debating which card to get and hanging on for new line of nvidia cards which i thought were dissapointing considering the wait.
I bought an Asus 5870 1gb this week, sure i could have hung on for a 2gb version but seeing as i only use one monitor it seems a little pointless and besides for the extra expesne i might aswell have gone for the 5970?

I installed the card lastnight, updated to the latest drivers. Bear in mind this was an upgrade from a sapphire 4850 but WOW what a performance increase. bfbc2 plays on max with everything on smoothly @ 1920 x 1200, i havent had a chance to test other games but so far i'm happy.

The only thing i can kick myself for is not buying one back in january when i had the chance instead of holding on this long in the hope that the nvidia cards would be better.

Sweet, glad you're enjoying your purchase :D Not surprised you'd get a boost after jumping from the 4850..
I personally don't see the need for a 2GB card at this point (unless you're using eyefinity), in the future sure (as with anything) but 1GB is really enough for now on a single screen.

Live and learn, now we know why NV held back performance figures until the day of launch, it sucked, and to keep people like yourself waiting.

:D

My brother brought the Asus yesterday, waiting for the delivery driver to turn up now :)

He brought it for bfc2 @ 1920 x 1200 on his 28" screen.
His going to use the latest drivers from the website.
As we don't know to much about ATI,as we have always use nvidia :D(slags)lol.
what are the best setting you choose in the CCC panel ?
is it like nvidia panel we're you choose application controlled etc ?
also, i read you have to use ati tools to enable V.sync.

Thanks for your help :)

ATI Control Panel allows for disable of V Sync if you want.... The ATI control panel allows for quite a bit of config however I still feel coming from Nvidia to ATI that the Nvidia drivers and control panel was a lot more feature rich....

Sorry but thats IMO. Dual support via ATI Hdyavision just plan sucks.... Also, ATI colour control on Windows XP is just pants... Really good in Windows 7, I felt going from Windows XP to Windows 7 using ATI drivers was a lot better.. Again IMO.

As for the cards. ATI 5870 is a fab bit of kit. Please I got mine. Went from a 8800GTX to a 5870 vapor - x and I REALLY noticed the difference... 1920 x 1080 gaming is so sweet.

you could have been enjoying the 5870 for months now so next time do the right choice and buy an ati card at launch

I most definately learned my lesson! In the past i've just bought whichever card got the best review at the time but these days im not sure why but i'm very careful when buying pc components.

I really thought the fermi cards were going to be something spectacular though and like many people i was really dissapointed.

The only thing i feel i am missing right now is the phsyx support which unfortunately ati lack.
After watching the eyefinity setups in action on youtube it makes me want to go and order 2 more monitors! :D
