I've had the box-set for months now but as I'm bumming around as a student I decided to finally crack on with it :)

I've watched 27 (40 mins per episode ) episodes in 5 days :o

I find it really hard to maintain my interest when it comes to politics but this is just awesome! There's 112 hours of it as well :p

The screenplay is probably the best I've ever heard on TV, the acting is top-notch and the storylines are invigorating. Sheen plays a fantastic president too!

I know I'm way behind the times but I just thought I'd recommend this show, so far it really is up there with the likes of The Sopranos and The Wire.

Who else watches/ watched it!?

I told you so :p

I've watched it through twice, Amazing from start to finish.

Best show I've ever had the pleasure of watching :)

I loved the first two seasons. Three and four were great too but I lost interest after that. It just didn't feel as well written.

Great show though.

I have the season box sets for this and really enjoyed it.

Aaron Sorkin's previous series to this, Sports Night (set in a cable sports news channel) was also very good.

About three episodes away from finishing the seventh series, the writing is truly fantastic as I think there has only been one or two episodes that I haven't enjoyed as much - they're not bad, just not as good as the rest. It's a series that really rewards following it through, while I'd watched a few random episodes and thought it was fairly entertaining it was only after starting to watch it in order that I realised how good it was.

Love it, watching it through for the third time now. It does dip a little in seasons 5 and 6, but it's still very good and definitely improves for season 7. Makes me wish we could make a political drama in which people are actually passionate about their jobs, rather than the cynical stuff we usually put out.

That was the thing I didn't like about it! Everyone in it was so patriotic and selfless - we know politicians aren't like that though so it just seemed really fake. Did give some insight into the american political system nevertheless.

As far as writting and acting goes I think it's second to none.

Really do love this show, might whack the first series on again this evening actually.

Got 2 weeks off work coming up, might re-watch this again as it's been a while since I've seen it.

EDIT: Don't want to say too much, but the Two Cathedrals episode is one of my favourites.

Glad I spotted this thread, I'm just finishing off 24 s8 and this is next on my list. I'd heard good things but after the action of 24 and the sheer brilliance of The Wire (which I don't think will ever be bettered) I was wondering how another show could come close.

Agreed. It falls apart at the end of series four, when Sworkin left. Series five is bad melodrama, and the first half of series six doesn't seem to know where it is going. Once the election campaign starts it gets better, but with one major problem: it's not the West Wing any more. It has a load of characters with the same names, but they act so differently to the same characters in the first four series that you can't even see the connection. Time after time characters act in a particular way just to advance the plot, rather than because it is consistent to who they are: the sure sign of lazy writing.

But the first four series are amongst the five greatest TV series of all time.

I don't get the thing about "the Wire" I found it alright, good in places.

Don't think it's as good as shows like the West Wing or Sopranos

I and a few others have been posting on this forum about West Wing for literally years now! It is the greatest TV show ever broadcast. Everything comes together, the writing, the acting, the actors chemistry its perfect.
