After a couple searches I've found that threads for headunit advice are fairly common on here, but it lacked an 'official' thread for such a thing.

I'll admit to being a bit of a car stereo fancier (all above board, officer). Owned lots in my time, and have recently owned 3 in one go. All high end, but relatively old. Recent units don't seem to attract me to the same extent.

Anyway, the 3 I've most recently owned.

Pioneer DEH-P77MP. Won't ever sell this one, lovely SQ for the money.

JVC EL Chameleon KD-LX555R. Recently sold and always wanted one.

JVC KD-SH909R. Got a friend currently borrowing this, similar style to the above Pioneer with it's brushed alloy face.

I fancy trying a Blaupunkt next now I've sold the chameleon. Never had one before and heard good things.

So feel free to post what you have, and maybe with a small word on what you like about it etc. It may help someone out. :)

As a Pioneer fan-boy, I'd recommend the 4300UB. Although you can get much better deals going second hand. IMO new head units pale in comparison to those of 5 or so years ago.

Just to say, I've paid for another 'unit today. Details to follow when it arrives and is fitted. :D

That sucks! They don't have the best reliability record, unsurprising with all those motors whirling around.

Depending on the model, I would have stripped it and tried repairing it for £15. Some are more desirable than others, and unless they're complete they don't go for a lot.

A Blaupunkt Frankfurt. FM and an AUX (kinda) input as standard. Not bad for a unit that is 45 years old.

Super retro!

Considering the age I could be wrong, but Blaupunkt have given German place names to their top end head units. So it's possible this was the flag ship stereo of the time!
