Please use this thread to post and discuss sales/fiscal data relating to Wii U/Nintendo, save clogging up the main Wii U thread with such information which is just winding the majority of the community up.

Thank you :)

To say a particular user is taking the thread off topic with financial discussion?

Seems pointless starting a thread with nothing in it. If he's breaking the rules then let the dons deal with it, if he's not then he can post what he wants

We could have easily got him a warning or a suspension with the sheer amount of trolling he's done since the early part of 2013 in that thread but on the off-chance that someone might actually be genuinely interested in sales data - I thought best/fairer just to separate that from the main thread (where tbh people want to talk about the system and it's games).

Better all round - then BH can still post sales data if he wishes - and people can reply, if they wish.

I suspect BH may go a bit quiet though - because the sales figures appear to be proving him quite wrong.

Only now that the price has been reduced and the games are coming. Everyone expected things to pick up after that. Up to that point though his posts were valid; it was a shockingly bad early release of the console.

Does anybody else think that Wii U won't even reach the sales of the gamecube?

I'd agree. At this point in time it looks like they're going to struggle to match the GameCube. There are games coming out (Mario/Zelda) but I think whether the WiiU gets continued third party support once the PS4/Xbone are out. Given the different in the hardware specs between the WiiU and PS4/Xbone I think we'll see a lot of devs/publishers simply not bothering to port next gen games to the WiiU

Nintendo are good but I personally can't justify buying a £250 console on the strength of their games alone. I'll likely buy one at some point but I'm happy to wait for a better selection of games and hopefully another price cut before I do. I suspect Nintendo will be the first out the door with another next-gen console in 2-3 years anyway if the sales remain as dire as they are just now.

Gaming is spread over many devices nowadays not just home consoles so console sales nowadays are suppressed somewhat. It may be unrealistic to compare then and now, things have changed.

That's a fair point and there are definitely more platforms around now than there ever have been. It'll be interesting to see how things are in another years time when the PS4/Xbone are out and we see what their sales figures are like.

I still think that sales of Sony/MS's new consoles (especially the PS4) will match those of the current gen though.

Wouldn't agree with this tbh, there has always been 3 main systems in any given cycle. Sure there are androids and tablets out now, but otherwise it's the same and gaming is much, much more popular than it was in the PS2 era. Besides, nobody is going to say 'I have an android phone/tablet with some pretty awesome games, I'm totally not going to buy a PS4 or a WiiU now'. The people who game exclusively on phones and tablets are the kind of people who wouldn't buy a console regardless of whether phones and tablets existed.

That all depends if it's a short term boost or if sales continue at this rate, though the console is still tracking well below the Gamecube, a console that Nintendo once said if they couldn't beat in sales they may as well stop making consoles altogether.

Broken Hope told us VG Chartz make figures up and Gaf people aren't even allowed to mention them any more.

Ah well, could have been an interesting graph.

Perhaps BH can differentiate between the accurate data and the made up stuff for us all?
