Just curious to see if anybody here as watched this movie yet? Saw it on my own yesterday in the cinema *bliss*. It was directed by British born Ken Loach and won first prize at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival.

Set in 1919, Ireland, it begins with the fighting between the Black and Tans and the Irish Army. Continuous tit-for-tat killings on either side result in a truce between them.

The Irish army then splits into two, one side settling for a proposed free state', and the other for a sovereign republic. The film ends with the bitter civil war between the Free State police and Republican Army.

Interesting flick. It's a bit gory in parts - fingernail removal torture, the ripped up scalp was pretty gruesome too. I loved the costumes and sets, they were excellent.
