Hi guys - AVG flashed up earlier this afternoon telling me that winlogon.exe contained some kind of trojan... click heal, thought it would be the end of it. AVG prompts me to restart, and when the system comes back up, I get the following error message:-
STOP 0xC000021A {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated
unexpectedly with a status of 0xC0000022 (0x00000000 0x00000000)
The system has been shutdown.
Played around for a bit, couldn't get anything working apart from basic safe mode. Thought i'd do a restore of Windows XP, the trouble is everything went fine (about half way through reinstallation) and it went through various setup processes until it came to boot up again, at which point I got the same error. Now I can't get into safe mode anymore, because I get "Windows XP Setup cannot run in Safemode. Setup will restart now".

Am I screwed?

I've checked the Microsoft support database thingy, but the error message and solution appears only to apply to Windows NT (It's with regards to %systemroot% permissions). :confused:

Bump for any ideas.... :/

I'd like to salvage this windows installation simply because it's such a hassle reinstalling all the programs and Outlook settings etc... In future I will set a 10GB partition for windows that I will take a disk image of every so often. :o
