I've just been watching this after being recommended to me by various people. Now, i've watched the first 5 episodes and nothing much has happened. Please tell me it improves. No spoilers please. :)

I wasn't impressed either, but i've heard people compare it to the Sopranos so i'll think i'll watch the 1st series and decide.

Thought the first series was excellent, but I'm now stalled after 3 episodes of series two. Apparently this isn't unusual. Going to try again after Xmas. Conversely The Sopranos never did anything for me, I just didn't get it.

Anyone know when The Shield starts on Five?

I was warned it was slow for the first 6 or 7 episodes and was told to stick with it. It does promise to be good. Its just that nothing has happened in 5 hours of viewing so far.

If you're looking for lots of car chases and shooting, you won't find it here. It's not that kind of show.

The Wire and The Shield are two of the best shows ever to grace the small screen. IMO.

It takes a few episodes of getting into but you'll soon be hooked. My friend recently watched it and went through exactly the same thing and by the end of the series pronounced it the best tv show he'd ever seen.

The Wire is the best show ever put on television.
Its about the characters, its about the plot, each series is a 12 hour film and those then go on to tell the whole story across the 5 seasons, all interwoven.

I meant nothing much has happened regarding the plot. And no, I wasn't expecting it to be another 24. I'll stick with it anyway.

I thought it was really good but its one of those shows you need to sit quietly and pay attention to.

I ended up watching 6 episodes in a row it was so good :o.

The shield is another good show but i wouldn't recommend watching this one series after the next as it'll become repetitive.

Gave a mate my copy of series 1 on DVD to watch whilst he was on a 20 day break from work. He ended up watching the whole thing in one sitting, then declared it the best piece of television he'd ever laid eyes upon, an opinion I share with him.

This.

If you watch these two shows you will be on the edge of your seat going OMGOMGOGMOGMGOMGOMGOGMOGM, fap. Stick with season one, it will catch on.

Part of the point of the wire is that it isn't always about shoot outs, car chases and the good guys winning. A lot of it delves into the monotonous work involved, cases falling apart, etc.

9.7 on IMDB, speaks volumes about the show.

It's funny, because you'll watch it the first time around and think nothing happened in those first five episodes, and then you'll watch the whole series, and go back and watch those first five episodes again and realise that a hell of a lot happens and you just didn't pick up on it.

As with the others, i watched the first 2 eps and was bored stiff with the lack of action, then sudenly everything just "clicked" and i had to go back and watch it from the start to make sure i'd got everything.

Just watched episodes 6 and 7 and it is just starting to build up nicely. It has some superb acting in it from people ive never heard of before. Classy stuff that is a welcome change from enjoyable 'escapist' stuff like 24.

Just a bit :D I watched all six series' again just before the seventh to recap pretty much one after the other. :o
