What is the situation with the combat in this game? I click away which holds my sword up in the air and people hit me, every now and then I hit them. Really it seems as though the thing is broken. Checked the first page of the Steam forum and couldn't find people with the same issue. Maybe it is just me.

It's based on timing, but it's a bit rubbish really.
1. Using strong stance on fast enemies is fail.
2. Using fast stance on tough enemies is fail.
3. Using group stance on practically anything is win.
4. Igni is pretty much the only power worth getting.
agree with the above. Though it can be frustrating with multiple enemies stabbing you all the time. Best is to use blizzard and swallow potion and put some diamond dust on your sword.
But I have punched my keyboard many times on this game when it seems that for no reason you cannot just hit anyhing!

dont use group if there are less then 3 people attacking you as it doesn't always work and fast stance will kill them quicker if its only 2 people.
Group stance on a whole once leveled up abilterates groups.
Igni ruins the game because u will discover you can just beat the game by using one attack.
Potions make it impossible to loose on any difficulty in any situation unless you dont have them. Then that was just your fault really, i always kept my self stocked up.
Bombs are a waste of time i think and upgrade your armour asap, makes quite a difference.
Buy all the cheap alchole you can see and turn it into the best alchole using alchemy. I forgot what its called, but it makes the game a lot easyer if you just turn all your alchole into the best type and it means it only takes up 1 slot in your inventory.

Any advice for "The Beast" ??
Tried about 8 times now, I just get endlessly stunned. Using a Swallow Potion, tried using Blizzard too but I just can't put the damage down. Abigail gets killed early on too.
Haven't got access to oils yet, didn't put the point in it...

I used a combination of running away a lot, the stun spell to knock down the other dogs & just hit the beast once & then run around a bit more while your spell recharges, rinse & repeat. Maybe blizzard in there somewhere too, I forget.

The beast is a pain. Level up the stun spell. Only way I could do it - and with a little bit of luck. A very annoying fight.
I made the potion that restores vitality and another for endurance. I had to go back and reload an earlier save, make the potions, and it worked quite easily. I know how frustrating it is, a tough first boss that. Never been a lover of 'boss' fights.
