Ok so took advantage of the £11 offer from Steam and downloaded it last night. Good points are that it has a good story, i actually quite like the combat system and it appears to be relatively user friendly.

The bad points, terrible editing between cut scenes, truly dreadful animation at times. Dodgy graphics too - the actual npc's look and behave like those seen in Freelancer which were only just acceptable at the time it was released - a long time ago. Also the voice acting can be crap at times and some of the inventory icons are rubbish.

I really really hope this game gets better. Im not disliking it per se, im just very unbothered by the whole thing really.

I understand from others that it gets better the further in you get?

Once I got into the storyline and the choices/consequences mechanic I pretty much forgot about all the problems. There are some really awesome quests in it and a couple of excellent twists in the story.

So yes, it gets better the further in you get!

First chapter is really just an introduction, although I liked it even then, but the game really opens up once you get to Wizima, and there are quite a few scenes in the game when I though Holy Shut this is awesome!

For me it was easily the best RPG since Vampire Bloodlines in 2007, and I played the original nonEE version 1.1.

Same here.

I bought the EE as well just to see the difference. Was disappointed really that the improvements weren't more impressive.

The twist at the end was great. A clever story !

I stopped playing it in act 3 I think, when you have to make an important choice.

The problem is, I couldn't care less about it, I had no reason to pick one or the other and therefore got ****ed off that the results meant I was completely alienated from one characterl, I hate it when this happens in game, if you are made to make an important choice it should be built up a lot and you should get to the point where there is only one logical choice for you, they should not just be thrown in there for the sake of it to make the player feal uncomfortable. Also Geralts voice acting 90% of the time is crap.

Don't judge the game by the first chapter/act because I initially did and dumped the game totally. Months later I then returned to it but found the game unplayable thanks to constant CTD's, which eventually got fixed.

The game is from a first time developer so it is very rough around the edges but it is also a no holds barred type game. They've really gone OTT on the language and depiction of women in the game.

It does get better as you go along, but don't expect much in the way of weapons and armour. Just brilliant storyline, and lotsa quests.

This is my all time favourite RPG game... i have played this through a few times and while it has its problems is is definitly very immersive, when you get past its faults.

I really liked Geralt's voice acting actually, thought it was some of the best I've ever heard. It suited his character perfectly.

Geralt's english voice acting is pitch perfect! I played english version because czech one was incredibly horrible (he spoke like he was constipated all the time), but english was flawlessly badass.Polish was also practically perfect.

As for faults - I played 1.1 version, with only one patch applied, and it was a completely bug-free experience right to the end.My only gripe were the long loading times, which were fixed by 1.2.

Overall, Witcher is for example much better and much more RPG (as in Role-Playing) than Mass Effect or Fallout 3, although those are great games too (one for its cinematic qualities, other for its exploration aspects).

I intend to replay it again when I have time, in its EE 1.5 glory.

I bought the re released version last year some time and loved it! For some reason I stopped playing though.. Might reinstall it this weekend while the missus is away for 3 days and blast through it! :)

Really picks up in chapters 3 and 4. Interacting with Princess Adda for the 1st time suprised me, with a couple of tuts from the Mrs (didn't think she was watching!) And the battles in Chapter 5 are quite busy, which is where the story divides, depending on your alliance. Cracking storyline and very nearly finished it.

EE 1.5 very rarely ctd's (more likely an OS issue for me)

I got stuck in the town and then another game came along and I never revisted it, that was a year ago.

With Dragon Age coming out I thought I better complete this one before I should even think of getting Dragon Age - so fired it up. Looks so much better than I remember as I now have a new screen and motherboard/processor :)

So far just going through chapter 1 but it's bringing back the old love. As a tip if you are not on 1.5 ensure you grab that - they took the CD check out of that so no requirement to keep inserting the CD when you want to fire it up. In fact the support of the product since release has been excellent.

Just started this recently too, bought the boxed EE which didn't come with the extras of the orginal EE,infact not even a hard copy of the game manual just a pdf file on the disc.:( Is the originally packaged Enhanced Edition still available?

All that aside I'm really impressed with and enjoying the game, well into chapter 2 now,the dialogue and voice acting is superb! finding as the game progresses that some exchanges of conversation are quite lengthy but never seem to fall into the realms of tedium, quite often with rpgs i'll speed read the captions and just click through the conversation, but I haven't felt like doing that at all with the Witcher.

Lovely graphics and sound too, with all in game video settings maxed it looks superb imo for a relatively old engine.

Was expecting combat to be fiddly and unrewarding due to many user criticisms but tbh I'm finding the system to be intuitive and fun, same with the alchemy system.

It's great to have a non-dumbed down, adult orienated rpg to play through,I'm not knocking the new gen rpgs or trying to sound snobbish! FO3,Oblivion,Mass Effect,Fable etc are all great games which I've played to completion, but the Witcher doesn't hand hold you so blatantly, and although my opinion may change as I'm only a shortway into the game at present I believe it's up there with classics such as BG series,Planescape,Kotor and Vampire Bloodlines.

Well I was kinda awestruck by the first act. The game grabbed my attention for about 10 hours. But like all other RPGs I lost interest! Its just not the genre for me. Which is a shame, because I'd love to love this game.

From what I did play Smit's description is right on. It looks incredible. Not just technically, its also the style. The story is pretty immersive imo. And intuitive is definitely the word - I think a lot of clever design decisions went into it. Its also very much a game in its own right. Definitely not a cookie-cutter.

Its just a shame its an RPG :D I don't know what it is about them but they just don't do it for me :/

Well not everyone can like everything no matter how good it is : ).For me RPGs are by far the favourite genre - they offer by far the most interactivity and range of thing to possible things to do in them - I will never forget when I played Fallout and found out I could be a junkie, pornstar, get married etc etc...simply awesome : ).RPG is a royal genre, but it is not for everyone, definitely..they are more time demanding, not for the unpatient, etc.

What are CDProjekt doing these days anyway? I know they put the console conversion of the Witcher on hold. They're one of the few companies I'd buy a game from on release day.

/wanders off to find out.

Edit - The Witcher 2. I should probably have guessed that :p
