The world's most boring thread....

Just wanted to know if what just happened to me is normal practice?

I bought a product from behind the counter (to treat scabies to be specific) - turns out I don't actually have scabies and was mis-diagnosed.

I spent £26 on this cream and went to return it just now (with receipt and sealed) and they claiming that because it's a "Drug" there are explicitly no refunds. Once the transaction has been made, I'm not entitled to any return.

I guess people could break the seal, tamper with the drugs, re-seal and then try and return them?

Seems a bit harsh on me :(

Is eBay the only option here? (under cosmetics)

Which they will - for free. That article is about providing a safe place for the disposal of unopened medicine not refunds. They cannot resell it so what are they going to do with it? Whilst this situation is regrettable, there is no right to a refund on a product you've purchased but for which you later realise you have no need.

I understand that to be fair. I'd rather try and make some money back on eBay than just hand in for free :(

Thanks for the clarification guys. Looks like we're all about done here.

Once you step out of a shop with a drug it cannot be put back on the shelf so to speak. You would not believe the phenomenal wastage on the cost of drugs wrongly prescribed or returned for whatever reason. Over the whole of the NHS it runs into hundreds of millions of pounds a year.
There are no exact figures I discovered as pharmacies are not obliged to keep a record of these drugs but I got a fair idea from my little local chemists of the costs involved.
