The Worst Official Controller

i still have the original controller, what were you doing with them? 10-20 controllers smells like complete BS to me

Not at all, you have my word mate.

I went through so many of them it was a nightmare.

I tried so many official ones, then the turbo ones, 6 button ones, cheap knockoff ones.

I only had two problems with the controllers, the buttons eventually not making contact any more (probably my brother and his mates fault from too much Track & Field and using lighters/pens to hit the buttons faster) but the major issue I had was the cables.

They kept breaking or coming loose, eventually we just started duct-taping them together :)

Perhaps 20 is an exageration... I'd definately say I had at least ten though.

I got a Megadrive around '91 or '92... and played it nearly every day until around '97 when I got a Playstation.

I still play the Megadrive I & II to this day though, so over 16 years of gaming from that badboy :)

lol how much were the controllers? do you reckon you have spent more than me when i bought my wii? if i was to add all my contollers up i reckon ive spent somewhere near £1000 easily,

3 x 360 controllers
2 x ps3
4 x wii mote
4 x nunchuck
2 classic controllers
6 x ps2 controllers
6 x ps1 controllers
360 flight stick
ps2 steering wheel and pedals
mini keyboard
2 x bluetooth headsets (ps3)
3 x 360 headsets
3 x xbox headsets
2 x megadrive controllers
2 x master system controllers
ps1 multi tap
ps2 multi tap
countless number of memory cards for ps1 and about 3 for ps2, thank god consoles come with hard drives now, but i do have 3 sd cards for my wii for sume reason you couldnt buy wii play from gamestation at christmas without buying a memory card too

do you reckon nintendo designed their controller system not to work together properly on purpose so people would spend more on contollers? or did they just make it up as they went along and hope that nobody noticed they were raking it in

Yea I swear on wii sports you cant assign 3 players to 1 wii remote but you can assign 4 players to 1? Tho you can assign 2 wii remotes to 3 players?

I'd take a Dreamcast controller over a ps2 controller anyday for multi-use, one thing I don't like is how a lot of games now rely on the use of both triggers and face buttons that I spend more time trying to remember which I'm supposed to be using than playing the game. Same with the 360 controller, I love how it feels but when games rely so much on learning combinations between 8 buttons, a D pad and 2 analogue sticks... I still get laughed at by a friend for holding a ps2 controller in a way that with my right hand I can get a couple of fingers onto the face buttons.

The original BIG assed Xbox Pad was awful, and definately worthy of worst pad. The revised pad that was released afterwards though was arguably the other end of the scale as one of the best I've used.
I never owned the original xbox but i played on a friends a fair few times and what you said mirrors what i thought at the time. Im not trying to bash sony or anything but they really should have sorted their damn controllers out a long time ago, they're not that bad i guess but they certainly should be a lot better considering how much time they have had to change it. Are they afraid they will alienate thier userbase if they revise their controller or something ?

Isn't it down to opinion and what people feel comfortable with? In my case i feel least comfortable with the PS3 pad and i've almost every console there has ever been.

Don't get me wrong! I wasn't saying your opinion was wrong or anything as it's your choice. It's just I found it hard to believe that a pad that's so close to the same PS pad we've used for so long now, could be seen as so bad, Considering some of the nasty ones we've seen.

That Xbox pad above for me was terrible, Buttons out of reach, CLunky and cheap feeling, and because the pad was so big, the left analogue button was too high up. So a similar complaint to that of the PS3 pad.

But as you said, It's your choice, Just one I definately don't follow, And as you I've used the lot. :D

Don't hotlink

CD32 for me was one of the worst

Mind you many of you wont remember a Kempston interface and Quickshot joysticks lasting about 2 weeks circa 1984? playing Daley Thompsons Decathalon

Cripes oh the memories, the blisters and tears when it snapped in your hand.

lol, I can't even remember how many quickshot joysticks I went through on DT's Decathalon...

yes! they were awful! i remember going through at least 5 black quickshots with the red buttons, and 3 red quickshots with black buttons. you know, the one with the turbofire slider on the back. awful things.

what about the atari 8bit joystick? the blisters you'd get from those things were unreal:eek:

I remember when we were kids, my brother found a bin liner full of joysticks in a skip and bought them home, we spent ages going through and testing each one on the commodore 64, think we were playing BOOTY, but we got about 20 of them working and sold them all off at school for a couple of quid each :D

It was a really weird joystick for the day though and I can't find any pics on the net - maybe you remember it. You held the base in one hand like a handle and the joystick part stuck out the top... difficult to describe really, but like I say it was unusual as most joysticks in the day stuck to a table like the quickshot.

1: Nes or Master System (ergonomics  )
2: Megadrive (to this day my hands hurt)
3: Analogue playstation controllers, the analogue sticks are in a useless position.

The worst control pad I've used was the N64, but conversely to that the SNES and the Gamecube controllers were among the best, I'm starting to wonder why I sold my Gamecube...

I tried so many official ones, then the turbo ones, 6 button ones, cheap knockoff ones.

I thought the six buttoned pads for the megadrive were excellent. The best 'pad' for the megadrive was the arcade stick though. The base was mostly metal and it weighed a tonne. :)

Still got my official megadrive controller and it works fine. Did destroy many joysticks with my C64 though :D

Not got a camera else I'd indulge your hand fetish. I can easily press both ctrl keys on a full sized keyboard with one hand if that helps give a scale.

Edit: I have a webcam though that I can use through MSN, no idea how to make it take normal pics though...
Is this you, Kreeeee?
