At what point do you think we will see a  WOW  factor gfx card on the market?
One that changes everything, offers an experience that no other card on the market does ?

I don't know what World of Warcraft has to do with graphics cards...

There won't be another wow moment in graphics cards. The progress might be moving pretty fast but it's been at a steady linear rate. We expect our new cards to be 2-3 times faster then our old so we're not wowed by the fact that they are. There won't be a card that suddenly is 10 times faster and can do full-on ray-tracing or something. As always something like that to will be edged up on and we'll start seeing bits of ray-tracing in games over the next few years until some games start to go full-on ray-traced but we'll be used to it by then.

Dunno about wow factor but I reckon the battle of refreshes of the current gens will be very exciting.

really when you think about this, and ask your self when was the last wow factor card, probably the first 3dfx add in board (3d gaming) and before that the cga revolution (thats when things went from b/w to colour for those that are too young to remember it.
so what could be next, because i agree the currant progression is just faster and faster cards. their will be a development that comes along that will cause us all to stop and go wow, but i really don't have any ideas on what it will be.

the Wow factor card is the one you upgrade to after a long time and i mean a good few generations like a 9800 to 5870

There wont be another wow factor card as long as game developers keep dumbing down the graphics for the console crowd.

WoW factors:

CGA is launched
EGA is launched
VGA is launched
SVGA is launched
3DFX launch "Voodoo" the first "3d Accelerator"
Nvida launch the "GeForce" graphics card
ATi launch the Radeon 9700 Pro

Those are the biggest jumps made thus far in the GPU industry, everything since is a minor improvement, For those who don't remember what was so special about the 9700 Pro, it is included because it was the first time ATi had ever had a flagship card that was more powerful than Nvidia or 3DFX's flagships

Maybe the 8800 series? They were pretty amazing at the time.

There is no real wow factor with cards i don't think or at least these day's.

I guess if you haven't upgraded in a while then the new cards will be a big step up but not wow unless you are/were still using a Geforce 2 or ATI eqivelent and upgrade to a new card.

Maybe when 3D becomes mainstream with no glasses or maybe when dx12 gets released there may be some cool features. you never know really...

not possible, the glasses are there to trick the eyes into thinking they are seeing something else. no glasses no proper 3D trickery :p

Well...Nintendo already managed it on their hand-held console 3DS without needing glasses, so I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before the large montiors can do the same. The keyword is 'time'.

the 8800 suck the gaming world..in fact it did it more ways than one...i do belive the 8800 was the first with cuda ?
