The X-Files is reopened!

I'll admit, I did kinda enjoy episode 3 which aired last night. It was a light-hearted bit of self-deprecation but that kiwi bloke from Flight of the Conchords was very good. If they could just manage to do a decent serious episode now then I'll be happy.

I enjoyed EP3. It was better than 1 or 2.
Bit of an odd choice for a 6 episode series - but fun nonetheless.

I thought it was really nice touch that Mulder's ringtone was the X-Files theme music.
As for Scully's scene in the back of the phone shop - Nice

You didn't even bother with spoiler tags :(

Pleased I always scroll down to the last post first - I saw your post before I saw some bloody idiot spoiling it for the UK people (I'm assuming).
OcUK gives in and creates a forum for the people who must illegally watch TV programs as it is their right yet they still pop along to spoil things for others.

I thought it was bloody awful but interesting see you and others praising it.
The biggest problem I have with this new series is Mulder and Skully and the way they're delivering their lines. It's like they are parodying themselves rather than actually being Mulder and Skully!
Perhaps they were this bad in the first place and I'd just forgot.... I want to like it. Really I do.

Could be that they truly are parodying themselves, I mean it must be fun for them, to return to the characters who made them famous. Maybe they are simply enjoying playing the roles one more time, for ***** and giggles. I wouldnt deny them that to be honest and can understand why it might just all be for fun

It's great that they are enjoying it but they could at least try to be convincing! Perhaps they both read the script for ep3 and realised it would be a short lived reboot and are just doing it for their paycheck.

I know what you mean, personally I can excuse that for ep3 because the whole episode was an intentional parody of the x-files. I don't mind that, other TV series have done it - Stargate: SG1 certainly did more than once. However, I have been relatively disappointed with the first two episodes for the reasons you give - hopefully it'll improve, however it sounds like it doesn't :(

So ep5 - another "light-hearted" episode though it did deal with some pretty serious issues. It was great that they brought the X-Files up-to-date with modern phenomenon such as terrorism and those trumpets. It was weird that they introduced Special Agents Miller and Einstein (I suspect they just wanted an S&M scene and didn't feel they could use Scully as the dominatrix as it's not really her character), and also the scene with high Mulder - parodies I felt were unnecessary really.

Started off ok but it's getting a bit stupid now. Mulder waking up after getting drunk and his phone playing the theme tune, then taking what he thought were shrooms!

Ep.5 is probably the worst bit of television I've ever watched.

Fox taking 'mushrooms' and line dancing with some cowboys followed by a load of rubbish about God. Wow.

Give me a lizard phone salesman any day.

Big fan here.

Me and the Mrs re-watched seasons 1-9 before season 10 went live.

I thought episodes 1 and 2 seemed quite rushed, but enjoyed them. I thought episode 3 was brilliant, obviously a parody episode (which they did a lot of before anyway). I also thought the gravestone touch was a nice nob to Manners.

However, episode 4. Oh my sweet god how bad was that? It was, in every way, probably the worst episode they have ever done. Everything about it was terrible. I have episode 5 to watch tonight.

Some things I just cant seem to get used to are:

The lack of the old style of soundtrack. It really used to tie an episode together, and gave it an identity.
How bright the sets are. The X-Files was always shot in an almost dark and gloomy mood, and the new episodes are ultra-bright and almost fake looking.
GA's croaky voice. I keep wanting to clear my throat every 10 seconds when she's speaking :p

It doesn't get any better... it really doesn't.

Episode 6 is on a par with the first two, at a push.

Mark Snow reprised his role as composer but yes I agree it does seem a bit different and definitely doesn't work as in previous series.

Really really disappointed with this and for the sake of the season 1-9 memories they can season 11.

GA still has it though :D

I watched episode 1-4 and felt like I was kinda enjoying it.

Then I started episode 5.

The first scene has a Muslim guy praying in his flat and I said to the missus "god, I hope they don't go there".

Two minutes later he's bombing some cafe.

I just turned the episode off as soon as it happened and haven't gone back. It's super tacky and instantly made me fall out with the programme.

Amazing that upset you yet the abortion of television that was episode 3 didn't put you off...!

Disappointing by the last episode, where they nicked the plot from a British TV show

For those interested there's a TV channel called Spike (on Freeview) that's showing the original X-files from the start. Ep1 was last night, Ep2 tonight.

I noticed this too, are the episodes in HD? it would be lovely to see the Pilot in HD (I only own the DVDS).

I cant believe I was paying £60+ for the original big fat DVD box sets all those years ago :(

Not in my area - I expect a channel called Spike is on ultra-low-def :( Seasons 1-9 on Blu Ray are £100 :(
