I have the XFX 7800GT EE graphics card and I have had some problems with the screen suddenly goin blank whilst playing a game.. This is very annoying considering I payed 250 quid for it.

I have had a look on the XFX forums and it seems that loads of other people are having these problems. Some say its down to the molex connector(which I doubt it could be down to) and others say the card dont cope with the factoy overclock very well.

Have any of you had this problem and what did you do about it? I'm thinking of RMAing this card and getting the OcUK card as a replacement. Could I do this? Im just worried that OcUK wont find it faulty when they test it.

Ta.

I dont think you can RMA this card through OCUK. According to this site "2 Years Manufacturer Warranty - Call XFX UK on 09068354400 for technical support and RMA services".

WOrth a shot first. I have the saem card but none of your issues, sounds like your unlucky there :(

There are many issues with the UDE* revisions of this card. 10 to 1 that Hunders has a UDE3, UDE7 or UDER revision. UDF7, which came after UDE3 but before UDE7 or UDER, seems much less prone to problems.

100% fan speed is the most common issue, but instability at stock speeds is repeatedly reported with UDE3 and UDE7.

If you want to force the issue, you could probably do so under the Sale of Goods Act, particularly the related amendments in 2003 which, among other things, specify that an item that is faulty within the first 6 months is usually to be assumed faulty at sale. As OcUK is the vendor in this case, they will be responsible if my reading of the law is correct.

XFX USA seems to be giving RMAs if they have to. XFX UK seems to be evading the issue even more.

Most people with problems have gone via their vendor. The best case scenario is if the box is labelled with a UDF7 label and the card is a UDE3, UDE7 or UDER. That is a clear case of misdescribed goods and the vendor should give a refund. Scan has done so, repeatedly. Usually to people who go on to buy a 7800 card from a manufacturer other than XFX, which is exactly what I will do if I get the chance. I'm deciding how much trouble I'm willing to go to, and taking legal advice to see what my options are.

I don't really want to put OcUK out - they gave me bad advice, but it's not their fault the card doesn't work as described.

The revision of the card is usually printed on a sticker on the card. The sticker on the box is not necessarily right (and has been wrong - XFX have apoligised for that particular mistake). Of course, it's also possible for the sticker on the card to be wrong.

I expect that NiBiTOR would also find the revision from the graphic card's BIOS, but I haven't checked.
