TheCloud Wifi networks

When I'm on the road I'll often have coffee breaks at McDonalds, mostly because of the free wifi.

Lately my Dell D620 has decided it no longer likes McDonalds free Wifi, which is run by TheCloud. I can connect, but I get the little exclamation mark over the connection icon indicating no internet connectivity. Opening a browser window gives me Page Cannot Be Displayed and not Thecloud login page as it should do.

At first I thought it was just broken, but no, I've now used several sites full of other people all happily browsing, yet my Laptop wouldn't.

I have no issues with any other wireless networks.

I'm running Windows 7. What could be the problem here?

You've not accidently given the adaptor a static IP address have you?

No, because as I said it works perfectly with all other wifi networks

If you get a ! over the connection it means limited or no connectivity if you check the IP it will be along the lines of 169.125.x.x, What firewall software do you use? Look under "manage wireless networks" and delete anything related to the cloud network and it should re-seek all the settings.

If that doesnt work let me know and i'll get me head around it some more.

Go into network settings, manage wireless networks. delete the entry for thecloud and then when you next go to use a cloud network you'll have to re-enter the password or settings. That should work, this happened to me a few times on various wireless networks.

First thing I tried was deleting existing settings for TheCloud.

It isnt always called cloud though, I've noticed this.

Check in your laptop for ones that your don't recognise and remove them that could potentially help. Next of all what firewall software do you have as windows own needs you to select wether your at home / office / public place as that stops ip's being resolved too.

There is nothing listed which could be TheCloud or any other public Wifi network

PistolPetes advice sent me in the right direction - all fixed now. It was set to assign automatically but it had manually entered DNS IP's from when I was in Kuala Lumpur airport. Obviously Thecloud must require you to use its own DNS servers whereas other networks don't, hence them being the only one that didnt work

So your laptop has been making dns requests to Kuala Lumpur whenever you've gone online without realising, that's sheer class!

Glad it is all sorted for you though.
