Hi Guys,

Long story short, I asked to borrow a memory card reader off a guy who sits opposite me and he said no problems, I said I'd get it back to him within a couple of weeks - it's cheap tacky thing, cost him like £2

Then a week ago, I thought I'd lost it I explained this to him and offered him either the cash or to order one, he asked me to order one, which I have.

Then on Monday I found it but forgot to bring it in (turns out it was in the car) and on Tuesday the car was taken away with his card reader in it to have work done. I haven't seen the car since - I've explained this to him and said I'll get it for him when I get the car back.

Now to today - my new contract phone arrives so I get it out, have a play and stick it on charge (it's a SE K850i) - now the guy next to the person who I borrowed the reader from asks to look at it, so I said sure, gave it to him, still attached to the charger, then when he says "nice phone" goes to hand it back, the guy who I borrowed the reader from snatches it, rips the charger out and the convo goes like this:

Me: "err..Will..wtf are you doing?"
Him: "you've got my reader, I've got your phone, I get the reader back, you get the phone back
Me: "I've already explained about the reader"
Him: "Yeah I know, you've got something of value of mine, now I have something of similar value to yours"
Me: "LOL! similar value? the reader is worth £2, the phone is insured for £450, wheres the similar value?"
Him: "I don't need to explain myself get the reader back"

I didn't argue back because I was getting a temper on by now and people were beginning to look, I then calmly explained to him that if I don't get the phone back by 3, I'm going to esculate it to his manager who will get the phone back. I also happen to be good mates with his manager :p

I'm not showing it, but it's really really annoying me, he performed theft right infront of me and I've got 3 eye witnesses as well. I can't believe the amount of fuss he is kicking up over a damn memory card reader though, he's acting like a fat 5 year old who's been told he can't have his 3rd helping of cadburys!!!!!

grrr.....

/rant over...

Seriously dude quit your job or something, it's not healthy ranting about work on these forums every week!

The last thread wasn't a rant :p

maybe you should have looked after the reader and handed back on time , its cleary your fault for being careless with it and anoyed him , i would have done the same

Fair point, but I was honest and have ordered him a new one which he was happy with. And is aware the delivery date is next week!

So you would've stolen another guys phone over a memory card reader? that's pathetic imo.

Manager - crying like a baby approach but one I would do.

You should removed his eye/testicle (kung fu style) and say, well I have something of similar value too.

lol, well I did have to go to the toilet and send a lengthy text to a friend explaining I'm about to go and beat the living **** out of him.

She managed to calm me down though :p

Dude why are you waiting until 3? why not tell a manager by now?

Giving him the chance to think about what he's done and a good opportunity to give it back.

longer you leave it the longer he has to do something with it.

If he damages it I will be sending him the bill, and he WILL pay for it.

its stupid your leaving it so long but tbh it was clumsy of you taking so long to give it back - how long has it been now since he was meant to get it back? :S

Yeah I messed up, I've admitted that and explained this to him.

He was meant to get it back Tuesday...so like...2 days?

I would make him give it me back, I am not the manlyeset man ever so I don't wanna get all keyboard warrior but if someone took my £400 brand new phone I wouldn't move from their side until I had it back. unless he is holding it he would have to put it down sometime? don't be a wimp, show some backbone!

If I did anything agressive I could risk my job! I'm not willing to do that over this..hence the manager approach.

Buy a card reader at lunch if it's that cheap.
Yeah people take things way too seriously but you took something of his, just replace it.

No, I've ordered him one, and then found his original, so I'm already £12 out.

He's being an impatient spoilt brat

He clearly feels you have messed him about with constant excuses (which i agree with) i would have just gave him a fiver straight away when i thought i had lost.

I gave him the option of cash in hand or ordering one. He took the order...

If he had of taken my new phone i would have made sure i got it back from him one way or the other as soon as he took it,i wouldnt of pussy footed around waiting until 3pm.

Go alpha

I can understand why he'd be annoyed that you've lost his card reader and even after ordering a new one still forget to give it back to him. However he doesn't have the right to take your phone as ransom.

I would just walk up and take the phone from him, if he tries to keep it from you then physically attempt to get it back and if you still can't, start saying very loudly that you demand your phone back so others hear.

When he went away from his desk I went round and it wasn't there, or in his draws, so he must have it on him.

and I've searched my own draws and desk incase he trys to plant it on me when I was away from it :p

I don't see how you can still value the phone at £450 when you wont spend another £2 to settle a dispute in work.

I've already ordered him a new one, and then found his orignal one, so I'm already out of pocket and originally offered him money as a replacement, which he didn't want.

The K850i is £279.99 unlocked, SIM free and brand new from leading retailers. Why are you declaring its insured value to be £450? That doesnt sound right to me.

Thought you had an iPhone anyway.

I do have an iPhone I unlocked it and put my T-Mobile SIM in it, this phone was received as a free upgrade from the original contract I took out in 2006.

Wanted this phone as a spare and to give to the gf 'cos she hate's her phone...plus it was free :p

I'm saying £450 because that's what the guy on the phone stated it was insured for :)

Where do you work in Brentwood mate?

I don't work in Brentwood, work on Fenchurch Street, London. I live in Brentwood - Hutton to be more precise.

J, send me the number for that phone.

I'll bombard it with texts saying "The boys are coming, lube up"

:D

Hope you get it sorted though dude. I ******* hate bullies :(

You have it :p

The SIM is in the iPhone though so don't worry about the bombarding of text's :p

yep, its gone from something that could have been a petty squabble to something that is going to be more serious now. either way I dont think he will give you another lend of that reader.

WHAT?! You mean I won't be able to ever borrow the reader...ever? I'll slit my wrists now.
