Having built PCs in the past I'm quite interested in the possibilities of a Mac Pro build, but because I don't have the hardware I can't tell if it is even possible. This is where OC knowledge comes in.
Storage: In theory I could put in 4 x 1TB drives from OCUK for a total cost of £240, instead of the Apple price of £240 per drive! Or from OC 4 x 2TB = £600.
RAM: Crucial prices are a lot cheaper than from the Apple store. 32GB from Crucial would be £1668.62 instead of Apples £3k! Am I right in saying there is some sort of adaptor for massive RAM installations?
So from Apple (2x2.26ghz, 4TB, 32GB) = £8339
Self build (2x2.26ghz, 4TB, 32GB) = £4407
Obviously these specs are completely possible, so I could save about £4k by putting in my own RAM and HDDs (not to mention selling the bits I took out).
The big question though is regarding CPUs, in the dual spec machine are they hard installed or are they upgradeable (socket 1366)? If they are upgradeable I could in theory put in 2x3.33ghz CPUs?
