Theoretical Maximum download speed on an 8Mbps service

I can max out at 240KB/s on 2MB, so I guess 8 would be 4x240 = ~960KBs ?
But my actual rate is 2048000, which is a bit of a weird number. as it's 2x1024x1000....

I think the max speed including overheads is around 920kbps. Overheads are 10% of the data which means the max speed of usefull data would be 828kbps (with the wind behind you haha). Seems to agree with what everyone else has said on here too!

On ADSL24 (SYNCed at 8128) I used to download at 840 to 860 KB/sec most of the time, no problems at all. Sometimes it crept even higher; I'm on top of the exchange though. Now I'm with UK Online I get 2500 to 2600 KB/sec :D

i've had 860kb/s downloading a demo off steam before. now what really ***** me off is that when i download content that i've paid for, i rarely get 200kb/s

IPStream Max has a maximum 7.2Mbps profile when you're connected at 8Mbps, so it's hardly a valid comparison to a "theoretical" connection (which sounds a hell of a lot like some sort of assignment question).

i'm connected at 8mb (well, i should be, BT are being a bit dodgy right now) and have downloaded at 1100kB/s from microsoft.com

these days, about 200kB/s (i'm going to phone bt and politely shout at them)
