I'm running Vista X64 SP2, my fileserver is running XP SP3. I try to copy a file to my fileserver and it runs as expected for a little while, then decides to throw up

"There is a problem accessing C:\FILE
Make sure you're connected to the network and try again"

C:\FILE is the location I'm copying FROM on the local PC. If I click retry it just sits there.

Any ideas ? All the solutions from a google point to an MS page suggesting to use the latest SP

It has issues with the LOCAL file? that's odd.
First thing I'd try is moving the file to my documents and try copying from there.

What file is it? is it big? i.e is this happening after several minutes?

Another thing to think about is Antivirus. If you have antivirus running sometimes the on access scanner can make windows thing the file is in use and that might interrupt a transfer. So you could try turning off any AV while you do it.

You may have a specfic problem with your network but is alos quite likley you have an issue with a particular file

Some files seem to be untransferable or undeleteable if moving across a network. I most recently had this when transferring files off an old hard disc to a network drive, files within an adobe folder just would not move nor would certain micrsaft folders

Verify if its a general problem or related to a particualr file or folder by being selective about copies.

This issue only occurs with large files. It's not limited to a file/location though, as I've had the issue copying all sorts of things (ie vista sp2 exe, ISO image etc).

double check the network cables are not damaged
also card drivers in the vista machine particularly if its 64 bit, windows update drivers have been poor for me in the past
