There is no decent upgrade path for 1080ti owners yet

Even though the 3080 is faster there is less VRAM. I feel the 3080 is for 2080, 2080 Super and 1080 owners.

Lack of Vram might not matter but it's really bugging me as Flight simulator and Prepar3d are my main games

The 3090 is expensive.

We need a 3080ti.

We lose 1gb of ram but gain faster vram at the same time, Does flight sim really use all 11GB on your 1080ti?

I'm going to be really cut up about losing 1GB of vram.

With all respect not sure if your being sarcastic there but in all honesty would you be happy if you purchased a mobile phone 3 years later down the line to find out it's got less storage? I know I wouldn't.

It remains to be seen the whether the faster ram speed and getting textures and data directly from an SSD can compensate this but that's a big if.

And yes I've seen few titles use over 10gb of my 1080ti, whether that was needed no one knows but we'll soon find in a couple of weeks.

the faster ram would make up for the shortfall of 1GB I'm sure. I've used 8GB cards at 4k and haven't ran out of VRAM.

The 3080 would chew up and spit out a 1080Ti.

I went from a 1080Ti to 2070S and didn't regret it.

Hopefully that's the case, I didn't really play anything other than testing this 1080ti as it couldn't do 60fps in 4k for 90% of titles so can't remember ram usage but fingers crossed it isn't a problem.

I understand the thoughts of the OP to an extent. I looked over all the specs with the 3080 and thought yeah - good upgrade path for me ... but then had a second thought of 'oh' when seeing it with 10Gb VRAM.

Then again, I equally understand the comments in reply, and it'll probably be fine with 10gb.

I'm sure it would be fine for today's titles I'm not sure what's going to happen when the new consoles out if they have 16gb ram as reported, it's the longevity of it that worrys me.

Had this 1080ti since release march 2017 and slowly but surely started to see GPU ram usage go up and up over the last 2 years with newer titles so that is a bit concerning.

Hopefully not but will wait for reviews on the 17th.

I haven't looked this up but often a new generation of GPU comes with better memory compression so in use it could have more efficient memory as well as being faster.

However I'm going to wait for a bit just in case they do announce another model in between. 1080 Ti is still a decent performer unless Cyberpunk 2077 with RTX is a must!

I do have cyberpunk on pre order lol so it was another reasoning as well, I'll just wait until the 17th to see what's going on with usage on big titles.

It is still a solid card, another reason is wanting to play at 4k which is not possible with the 1080ti.

I'm considering the 3080 to upgrade from my 1080Ti. It looks like a great upgrade to me. One GB less VRAM, true. But when the benchmarks arrive I expect it'll completely destroy the 1080Ti and provide decent RTX performance all the way up to 4k. The 3080Ti is probably going to be a bit more than I'd like to spend. Glad I decided to skip a gen tbh.

FS2020 may well cache a load of stuff to ram but you dont know what impact the VRAM has.

The consoles do not have 16GB VRAM. That is total RAM, its not all used as VRAM, they might have 10-12gb usable.

Until there are more comparisons of VRAM usage and impact its little more than fearmongering.
