Morning all,

I've recently formatted my laptop and installed, Windows XP pro on it. Now I forgot I didn't have the drivers to hand on a cd. So I went searching on the net and only found drivers for this laptop that were for Windows 98 only. I did try them, but obviously they didn't work. Now everything runs on the laptop, just no sound and no Lan. This is due to lack of drivers.

The laptop is a Compaq 14XL455. Series: CM2090

Could anyone point me in the right direction for the Windows XP Pro drivers. I've even looked on Compaq's web site and no luck there. Even Google isn't my friend at the moment. :(

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Many thanks, guys.

Robert.

Yeah, on their website i can find W2K drivers, but none for XP.

Is your modem a conextant? Because there are combo drivers for W2K "Presario Notebooks Conexant Combo - Modem/NIC Driver for Windows 2000"

If your modem is, then it might be worth downloading and trying varions conexant nic drivers.

And i'm guessing the sound card in the laptop is a VIA chipset, due to the "Presario Notebooks Via WDM Audio Driver for Windows 2000" download under the W2K options. Again, i'd try and find via drivers, maybe documentation will give model numbers?

OK, have had a quick look. Googled for VIA WDM drivers, found this page and it's got various drivers listed. Might be worth trying some of them.

Still having a look for modem/lan drivers to try.

EDIT: Why don't you give them a phone and ask if they can help? I'm sure they'd be happy to help out :) I've got a HP number i use for kit at work: 0870 8422339.

2nd EDIT: OK, found an official "out of warranty" support number: 0901 235 2328. But it says 60p per min!

Hi, Nade.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated!

I can't phone them as I'm in South Africa. However I will try the links you suggested and download the drivers. I forgot to bring my Flash Drive in with me to work this morning, so I will post back as soon as I've tried those drivers.

Again, thanks a lot for the time and effort you put into this for me. Good to know there are kind and helpful people out there.

Enjoy the rest of your day,

Robert.
