Quick question. Say I didn't have any thermal paste to put between my new CPU (E6850) and heatsink (Skythe Ninja thingy), would it do it any damage? I would put some on it monday, but obviously all the shops are shut today/tomorrow.

Thanks

Lol, it won't overheat unless its on the bleeding edge already, but it definetly will run a fair bit hotter. STRONGLY advised to use thermal paste.

really????? i thought it would just fry and die (<-- good quote think ill use it fry and die lol) but seriously no paste is about the stupidest thing ive ever heard its like eating a sunday dinner with no gravy, so dry and arid its asking for trouble :D

There are a multitude of other substances you could use in the meantime :D

(toothpaste and marmite come to mind...)

"That's right - Toothpaste Superior To Arctic Silver 3! Film At Eleven!"

thats just brilliant :D made me chuckle before i even looked at the results, break out the colgate its overclocking time:D

if your old enuf or parents have a car maybe they will have some thermal copper grease what you put on break pads to stop them seizing up and squealing. I read in PC Format that a bloke in there uses some and his temps dropped by 13C.. It has a temp limit of 1300c...

I ran a CPU without paste and yes it will be hotter, but it won't kill it unless it was stupidily hot in the first place.

Jokester
