Nehalem is to be launched as Core i7

http://en.expreview.com/2008/08/08/nehalem-to-become-core-i7-processor/

Not sure what I think of the name, love the logo though. Core 3 Duo would have been too similar I guess so they needed something a bit different. We had Pentiums 1, 2, 3, 4, D (5), Core 2 Duo (6) and now...seventh generation modern architecture = Nehalem...so that's why it's i7 I think.

In other news, today officially marks the end of the production and sale of Netburst processors! Hooray!

Meh, its not bad but i would have preferred Core 3 Quad/Extreme

I read somewhere that the 7th microarcitecture was Netburst (786) but dont quote me on this one.

;)
I guess they recognised Apple's success with the "i" moniker in front of everything.

but i stands for intel

its faily basic stuff
plus me and phatzy should have been on the intel marketing team imo

apple put i in front of everything for no real reason
iphone, ipod, iface, iaids, isink, iurinal etc
at least intel are using the i from their brand name i guess

im wondering two things....
1. when will apple take offence and refust to use 'i' chips in ther macs
2. when will i be able to get some ope or F.T.W.. edition cpus for my rig

come on intel - it makes sense

meanwhile amd are in a board room toying with the idea of making the destructathalon ;)

Like the logo's a lot.
mmm "i7" not sure on that, it has the "i" which is related to apple. But sounds alright from what is said above.

Awesome! :D

Does that mean i get a free Nahalem rig then... that would be nice! :)

gt
maybe but i would have thought they would make you pay for your ddr3 for making a farse of intel branding!!!

either way i would imagine you would get a lot of paid time off

"i7" isnt exactly something you would need to take months deciding on...

personally i would like to see the list of 'maybes' that they had

I think it's i786 as opposed to the original pentium pro's i686. Y'know, for the i7 part. It'd make sense since the shift to QPI from the old FSB is quite a big change (that and Netburst was P68, not i786. >>).
