Thermal compound already on cooler?

Probably going to be a lot of posts from me this evening as im building my first pc

Generally pick things up easily I just want to double check a lot of things on here before I go steaming in and mess up.

I take it the grey square on the bottom of my cooler, (AMD) which came with the processor, is the thermal compound? If so, theres no need to put any on the actually processor right?

Yes it is, and no there is no need to put any on the processor

ideally you want to remove it and apply some decent thermal compound
