Thermal Compound Question

My new bits came today (Q6600) but i forgot to order some thermal paste for it and there was non supplied.

I have found some thermal paste by Gigabyte in my draw that is still soft and had the top on, its probably a few years old...will it still work or will it have gone a bit off?

Should still be fine, better to give it a try and have a useable system for a while until you get some more favourable compound.

It may well still be alright to use but personally I'd buy some new stuff AS5 or similar or if you feeling adventurous you could use toothpaste
